that's the scheme haley wanted to run. they did run some of it later in the year also, so it wasn't completely scrapped this past year when pouncey went down.

Listening to them talk on 970 ESPN sounds like that's the case.

I'll be the one to say that he should have been fired, and I know they came together and played better down the stretch but they were really bad in the first half of the season. We threw Ben under the bus for the turnover problem he had when I watched the Bears game it looked as if there was nobody blocking anyone, defenders came free on every play and after that every team we played they would blitz and it took until the end of the season to fix it. I don't even think he did fix it, I think Beechum was getting better with the more playing time he got, Velasco was great and even Cody Wallace did a tremendous job but I think the addition of Beechum and him getting better each game made them look better, not the coach.

    Interesting read...

Why the Steelers decided to fire OL coach Jack Bickknell Jr.
The Steelers’ decision to fire offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. after just one season might come as a surprise because of the steady improvement of the offensive line in the second half of the year.

However, the move is not surprising because Bicknell’s role slowly diminished after the Steelers had problems protecting Ben Roethlisberger and running the football in the first half of the season.

In fact, for most of the second half of the season, offensive assistant Shaun Sarrett was doing a lot of the instruction and daily handling of the offensive line, according to sources – duties normally performed by the offensive line coach.

What’s more, it did not help Bicknell’s cause that the outside zone blocking schemes that were to be a large part of the team’s revamped running scheme were non-existent once the regular season began.

Curiously, the offensive line improved as the season wore on.

After allowing 36 sacks in the first nine games, the Steelers allowed just seven in the final seven games. And the running game that averaged just 3.4 yards in the first 11 games averaged 4.1 yards in the final five games.

But the Steelers apparently believed that Bicknell was not the reason for the improvement.

Well, I suppose if Sarrett is named OL coach, probably true he was taking over responsibilities.

According to one #Steelers O-lineman, it’s “absolutely not” true that Jack Bicknell Jr. had any duties replaced or diminished at any point.

Interesting things coming out of this team for the last few years. I'm not sure I like how they've been doing business. Keep a guy on your roster for the extra slot while telling him he's got a spot then dumping him, Haley miscues, Taa'mu situation, Cris Rainey and the BA retiring/firing crap.

What exactly has Grimm done as a coach since leaving the Steelers? I'm not trying to be a wisecrack. I really don't know what he's done of significance.

I think we literally ran less than 20 zbs plays after the horrible start. They were talking about it on the post game the other day. But they were also praising Bicknell for his work so I guess they didn't know either.
