LOL, Can we still be competitive
and field a competitive team around him?
This must be a high priority to find
out what it is going to cost us going forward.

More than Cutler. Which he deserves. We won't be able to sign any free agents. Might just have to rely strickly on the draft to fill holes. Resigning Worilds might be out of the question also Pouncey when he comes up for his contract. Definitely have to trim the fat of Ike, Clark, Kiesel, and Woodley.

    Probably.
But half the quarterbacks in the league could say they deserve more than Flacco. I hope at some point the overpaid contracts stop driving the salaries.

In my opinion, Flacco got his contract for that one season leading up to the Super Bowl, definitely not his body of work through his career. But Ben has won two Super Bowls and his body of work over his career has been consistent enough to pay him top dollar.

I was going to start the same thread...I recall a discussion a few weeks ago about Ben taking a hometown discount. With the Cutler deal, it's not the years, or the total $, but the $50+million guaranteed. When it comes to Ben, not sure the team signs a 7 year deal, but if you lock up a large amount of guaranteed cash, that could hurt the team if Ben is not able to play because of injury.

But I'll tell you, when I saw that money go to Cutler (to Cutler? (in a Mora - playoffs exclamation)) I thought two things with this being a QB league: 1) Ben won't be cheap 2) This is a QB league, they get a premium, because the rules have been changed so that QB's are needed to get the job done, so to thoughts from this past year that we should get rid of Ben, I'm just scratching my head. We have a franchise QB, Da Bears are paying premium for a guy, who most are not really sure, is.

Good question. We'll have our "franchise" QB but won't be able to afford anything else. And if that's the case, does the defense stay the same as this season or does it get worse?

The Bears are off their rockers for that deal. They are gonna have to pretty much blow that team up. Forte is worth top dollar and so is Marshall and Jeffries is looking like he might turn out to be also. There will definitely be casualties with this deal. Aren't they also dropping a big dime on Peppers and Briggs and Hester? Cutler is barely above .500 for his career and is getting top dollar. Although only a third of it is guaranteed but still. I know Ben deserves that kind of money but I hope he would take a much smaller contract to really help us make another run. I know that's easy for me to say as a fan but I wouldn't be surprised if most fans felt that way. I really wouldn't blame Ben for not taking a smaller deal though after all the punishment he has had to endure over the years.

No. The Bears D won that game. But if people deserve big deals for one regular season game please promise us you will never apply for our GM position. LOL.

If Ben is interested in being the highest paid QB in the league, we will have a problem but I really don't think that is his priority anymore. I believe him when he says he will do whatever it takes to stay in Pittsburgh. He's got a wife now, a kid, this is his home, I don't think he wants to pick up and leave at this point of his career.

Yeah, I agree. Ben will get paid very well, and while it may not be top dollar, I think it'll be fair for both sides and he can retire as a Steeler.

I'm guessing Ben will be seeking a 6 year deal around 110-120 Million, with around 45-50 in guaranteed money and with money teams throw around on QB's he will either get it here or else where.

maybe he plays his two years out and we could franchise him for two. that is a couple of nice paydays by 2016 and 2017. or some sort of ownership agreement down the road? <not sure how the cba affects that.

i'll bet hester is let go from Chicago. you will have to cut other money somewhere.

I've also talked about these franchise contracts for boarderline franchise qb's. Flynn, when he got like 10 mil. for basically one good game. it's crazy. even bens last contract was ridiculous.

we don't even know if ben wants to play or can play past 2017, but we could keep him here until then. that's 4 more years. he'll be 35 or 36 by then with 150 more hits on him.

ben's got plenty of money for his wife and kids to keep them. add his NFL pension and he will be doing fine.

we don't want to do the same thing with our future after ben with an astronomical ben contract, what will the next guy want? we could be the bears by then asking ourselves, do we pay this guy? he's pretty good, but? we don't cut the teams throat for one guy either. not at this stage of his career.

Couldn't agree more... I don't know what the bears' f.o. is thinking, especially when his back up outplayed him

Ben should attempt to get as much money as he possibly can. I don't believe the Steelers should attempt to extend him until after next season.

I don't believe Ben lost the Bears game a lone. The turnovers he committed hurt the team though. Difficult to win a game when the QB commits 4 turnovers.

The Bears are insane, I personally think Cutler is WAY overrated. He might not even be the best QB on that team.

    #1 couldn't agree more

#2 Our cap situation when these guys like Ben and Pouncey are ready to be resigned will be fine....Woodley, Ike and Troy account for 36 Mil of the cap for next year!!!!!!!!!!! Plus do we really ever sign big money free agents

#3 They will be able to afford these guys...
worlids will be a bit more tricky because he is up this year...but there are tons of ways to move money around and create cap space...they cannot let another young developing player go like him..they will find a way
