This is an article revealing the top few most annoying words in America. One of them should be very familiar to those of us around here. As for what I consider to be the most annoying word in America it is when people go "REALLY?" Although that is more of a cliche than a word but I guess it is a word cliche. It's just highly annoying to me when people use that. What word or cliche do you guys hate the most? I think I probably use the most hated one quite frequently actually. LOL.

None of the words on that list bother me one bit. The one word (not a real word though) is prolly. Take the time to type the extra 2 letters!

Most of the words that make me twitch are buzz words from the new company I work for.

    Incentivize (Just say incent!)
Socialize (This is just a way to say that they want other people to make a decision so they don't have to take a chance on being wrong)
    Pullup (Instead of a meeting)

I can't believe the lesson didn't take after the last time you started whining about things that bothered you around here.

LOL. The main thing that I thought was funny about the article was the fact that the word "obviously" was one of the top words voted on. Maybe we should forward this article to a certain coach???

I also hate buzz words like that as well. My buddy told me that he wishes the word "epic" would disappear.

Coach T doesn't bother me at all. In fact I'll take his use of obviously over the antics of a whiny ***** like Harbough 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

I really don't know why people like to use the word obviously so often. I mean isn't it sorta counter-intuitive? If it's obvious why do you have to say that it is?

"SERIOUSLY?!?!"... It`s "like", ... "REALLY?"... But even more absurd... kinda like "RIIIGGGHHTT?"...When spoken by know it all teenage girls... "Fer Sure!!!"... LOL...
    I know, Right?, "DUDE"... "What?!?!"
    LMAO!!
"epic" could be thrown in a garbage dump, too... "For all I care..."
I could go on, and on, with annoying words and phrases...
But, "for now", "just to be clear", I will read the article, so I can be "on the same page", with y`alll...
And hope i don`t "offend" anyone, by being "Politically incorrect"...
"God forbid", I "hurt anyone`s feelings"...
    "Peace out"...:roflmao:
Until I further research the topic, I will go with "Sensitivity training", or "Grief Counselors"......
    EDIT...
OK... "upon further review"... I think the word/phrase/saying.... "WHATEVER", Deserves to be the runaway winner, 8 years in a row...
There is simply nothing more dismissive of another person`s point of view, and more likely to piss me off personally, than saying... "whatever"...
Fine... If that is what you think of what I had to say to you, I will instinctively reciprocate, in kind..."Whatever", and the conversation/ debate, is effectively over...
A better conversation killer just doesn`t exist!
One can NOT help but be offended, when their opinion is simply dismissed, and swatted away, with a flippant... "Whatever"...
And I`m sure that will be the first reply to my post, so I am issuiing a pre-emptive "whatever", to whoevr responds with that, 1st...:lolol:

Ya know a word that REALLY rubs me the wrong way is the word "relax". I just think that is one of the most condescending words. I mean when someone tells another person to relax. That's really annoying. Also I'm in total favor of banning "I know right?!" as well. "Oh snap" is another one that's a trendy little phrase that gets on my nerves. "Let me be clear" is a rhetorical device that politicians use like crazy and then go on to say something totally muddled. LOL!

    Ohhh nooo hee dihdn`t!!!...
Lmao! forgot about those, there are just sooo many to pick from...but,
What made me laff, and respond, was the "relax" thing.
I never saw it as being condescending, but apparentley you are 100% correct...
A few months ago, I read an article off the Yahoo homepage, that started off with something like ...
"7 things you should never say to your girlfriend"...
It was basically like one of the articles you would read in a magazine that is in the checkout aisle at the supermarket..
"Cosmo", "Enquirer", or whatev... ooops, sumthin like that...
Anyhow, what was funny, was it said you should never say, "just calm down", to your girl, if you are arguing with her...
I say that all the time...
Apparently, that "invalidates" her feelings, and comes across as condescending... I never knew...
I was just trying to get her to calm down, and talk to me as a rational adult, not a psycho-bi... I mean chik, er, no.. girl... Yeah, that`s what I mean..
Talk to me like a grown-up, instead of yelling at me like a crazy person!!!
Guess that is the wrong approach, because it "marginilizes" their feelings, or something like that...
I would have never known there was a grain of truth in that, if I hadn`t just read your reply about, "relax"..
I honestly never felt that was insulting, or condescending, but, apparentley, even another guy that`s a Steeler fan, sees it that way..
Hmmm... Guess I`m just an insensitive jerk!!...
Just kidding, kinda, but really surprised, that "relax", is offensive.
Never meant it that way, but it`s always good to see another point of view.
All joking aside, I mean it. I never thought of that as being rude, condescending, arrogant, or anything like that.
Was always just trying to calm someone down, and get them to talk to me about a problem, instead of yelling at me, but maybe that`s the wrong approach... I`m never too old to learn somethin new...

It's weird because it's almost one of those things where "it's not what you say but how you say it". The other day on a thread I saw someone tell someone else to relax and I thought that it was sort of a smarty pants thing to say. I never tell people to relax but I hear a lot of people say it and it is usually under negative circumstances and maybe that's why I associate it with being condescending.
