Yes. Woodley has sadly become someone that we can't count on to be on the field consistently, and when he is he doesn't live up to his salary. Lance the wound now and let the pus drain, the acute pain now will be worth the long-term health.

I really hope so because Woodley is a bum and Jarvis Jones I fear isn't going to live up to expectations. I understand that rookies struggle, but he's getting manhandled out there. Some of the reports on him before the season was that he would be undersized and not strong enough to play outside in a 3-4.

Woodley won't go anywhere. They need to figure out how to keep all 3. Pass rush is king in the NFL, so having 3 good ones in necessary, and we've seen that Jarvis isn't ready (and that's in no way a knock on him).

With the three of them you let Jarvis come in to give the other guys a couple plays off, and maybe move him inside for passing downs. Then when Woodley is nearing the end of his contract Jarvis should be more than ready to step in.

They need to figure out how to get Worilds signed. If that means cutting/not extending Troy, Clark, Ike, Foote, Kiesel, Ziggy... THEN DO IT.

Someone said in response to cutting Troy "that's tough." This team HAS to make some tough decisions. The re-structuring of contracts and avoiding those tough cuts is why they're in this mess. Cut Troy and sign a cheaper option in Free Agency.

If this team continues to let youth walk to keep old guys, they'll never sniff another championship.

So we're cutting Troy, Clark, Ike, Foote, Keisel and not resigning Hood just to sign a guy that has come on a bit as of late? I'm for keeping Worilds, but not for cutting all those players.
You're cutting three of our four starting DB,s and two starting DE's? Any idea how we are going to replace those guys and what kind of cap hit that's going to create?

Cut, not sign, whatever. Point was he wanted to get rid of six current or injured starters in order to sign a guy who up till a few games ago was considered garbage by a lot of people here. Who are the two young DE's you're talking about?

He was never garbage, he actually had a good amount of sacks if you added up all the spot duty he did. But he has definitely elevated his game now. Colbert once said that if you really want a player, there is always a way to work the cap, we'll find out how much they want him. Worilds value shouldn't be too high.

I like Worilids, I was just saying people were hating on him a couple months ago and now want to sign him at all cost.

I was actually supportive of Worilds last year and thought he would get it done. I'm not sure if he's really that good or if he's just the tallest midget right now. But if we can get him at a bargain I don't think it would be the worst thing that's ever happened. We at LEAST need some depth on this team and if it turns out some of the new guys are actual studs then it would be good to have Worilds as a dependable backup wouldn't it?

An UDFA and a 7th rd draft pick? Two practice squad guys that have yet to see the field? Not saying that these guys won't turn into good players, but at this point I wouldn't hang our hopes for success on these two.
We can't dump half our starters for a team full of practice squad and UDFA players.

let's see, al woods was a PS player. beachum was a third, 7th round pick. james Harrison was an UDFA and PS player. mclendon was an UDFA,PS player. willie parker was an UDFA. keisel was a 7th rounder. ryan clark was an UDFA. foster was an UDFA. will Johnson, david Johnson, Robert golden all UDFA's. I'm not seeing all these starters you are talking about lighting it up glenn on this 8-8 and 5-8 team the last two years. we will have a draft again this year. nobody want's to cut anyone but they want the team to improve. am I missing something here?:cool:

Never said they won't turn out to be good players, but they are unproven at this point. Woods an Golden haven't done squat and while I like Beachum he is a back up on most teams. Sometimes you get lucky in the late rounds and UDFA, but it's not a way to build a team.

until we unload some money, it may become a more common event around here. we had a lot of this type of players this year. I thought woods has done a good job so far. I'm thinking we can find a starter and a couple backups from these 3. arnfelt played well in preseason. john Mitchell was pretty high on Williams as a draft pick too for the future. why waste having these guys all year learning if we aren't going to use them at some point?

I am afraid that Worilds will move
onto greener pastures. Unless the Steelers
find a trading partner that would absorb some
of Woodley's high salary. I would say the
Steelers are stuck between a rock and
    a hard place.

Agreed, but we wouldnt have to cut all those people like everyone things...worlids will prob demand about 5 mil per over 4... very doable if they really want to resign him...

Wish people realized The only way woodley is going anywhere next year is a June 1 cut PERIOD!

I agree. We're not going to do that much house cleaning for a player that just came on the scene in a few games.

I think we should because even if we do want to let both walk , Woodley and Worilds, and then draft an Outside Linebacker in the first round we would have two young and good, but undeveloped passrushers without any veteran mentor at the position. It'd be smart to sign him and would only help us.

I can't see a scenario where letting both walk could ever happen. I agree, re-signing him definitely helps the team. Welcome to the board, btw.

i think we draft at least one guy and some priority UDFA's after, keep woodley one more year. keep carter one more year until the new guys get their feet under them. then the following year woodley becomes a june 1 cut. colon will be off the books by then and 1 more year makes a big difference in woodleys cap hit. i just think this is where a guy like van noy is a plus. inside and out capabilities would help us tremendously. c.j. mosely and shazier i don't beleive can play OLB in the NFL with their size. i know.:beathorse:
