I agree with the run part "finishing as the top-ranked defense against the run", but why this part then "and the worst-ranked defense against the pass" ??

My main point Tomlin wasn't there long enough to help do any actual real building/drafting of the defense.

Yes our D has become a residual haunting basically playing the same schemes over and over, our opponents are immune to Dicky well. We have no consistent pass rush nor run defense.. Sunday the Phins had there way on the ground definitely as become an issue. The secondary needs a face lift as well need the fresh hands and legs. Much tweaking is needed for the off season just hope the organization don't over overreact, but plays it smart where we don't have to wait years for a Championship. k time for our afternoon BS meeting talk later.

The sad part is we won't be able to fill all the holes in one draft. We will have to assume risk somewhere.

Maybe we should just load up on offense and just out score our opponent like the Patriots, broncos and Saints.

Where Tomlin gets blame from me is that he seems to be too sentimental and won't cut guys as SOON as they lose a step. People can hate on Bill all they want but he flat out will get rid of you if you lose a step. I've never advocated firing Tomlin but I've just never been all that big on his personnel decisions.

Or use that untapped resourse that for some strange reason we seem aviod ... other teams practice squad players (during the season). Are we trying to be nice guys or something ??

The hell with that, I say ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZnhuOEUFXA

the sad part is the old veterans that are still on the team will be gone probably at the end of this season (keisel troy ike clark ), it's good because we need to be younger and faster but watching the decline result of the departure of the other ones (ward farrior hampton hoke smith harrison ..) i wonder how can this team regain a sort of leadership in the locker room and fight trough the adversity . we would need some strong personality (cowher like) otherwise i see other problems on the horizont . if you think the locker room will be carred by ben that throw the oc under the bus , timmons that is not the brigthest mind , woodey that is a rapper out of shape , the only ones i see on my type of like are velasco miller and heiward ..maybe mclendon and c allen

If and when the Rooneys decide to replace Tomlin, IMO we need someone with NFL experience, yet has the experience to rebuild or build a team (doesn't necessarily have to be the NFL) under adverse conditions.

When that time finally comes, I have officially changed my replacement choice to Bill O'Brian.

my guess is the salary cap has a lot to do with that. I don't know but cutting ike would cost a lot I think. they did make decisions on mendy, didn't pay Wallace, and said bye to hines and farrier. Hampton too

Cutting Ike will be a big cap savings for 2014, 7 Mil to be exact.

We should bring everyone back. It's not like we're four seasons in to a 2-14, 3-13, 1-15, 4-12 stretch. We haven't had a losing season in what, 7 years? We have creaky knees on defense and steady injuries along the offensive line. Let's get some consistency on the field before we go canning our coaching staff. This isn't a KC situation, where our defense is stocked full of first round draft picks and we're just waiting for the perfect coach to come along. We need stability in decision making and health on the field. My vote is for no one to get canned.

If I was forced to pick someone, it would be Haley, because like Blast Furnace mentioned in a different thread, I don't think he fits in well with us (or any team, for that matter). I think he may be too much of a love/hate person, with more hate than love. Hard to build a team when one of the top dogs is a well-documented jerk.

Tomlin is just a locker room manager. He keeps the troops together. He probably helps come up with general ideas on plans of attack on both sides of the ball each week, but I think it ends there. There is no way he is telling Lebeau a better way to do things, and if he was an offensive genius he would be calling the offense plays like some head coaches. It is not a bad thing, Cowher was the same way.

Some troubles on offense might be Haley, but it is Ben too. Ben is not a super consistent system QB that can run offenses like Breeze, Manning, or Brady can. Sometimes his timing throws are a little scary to watch. It doesn't look natural when he throws a quick slant or a WR's crossing over the middle. Haley's offense is predicated on the QB completing a high percentage of passes.

However Ben is a good QB and his ego and status kind of prevents us from doing something like focusing on running the ball when it would be beneficial to do so. For example. We could have probably exclusively used Leveon Bell and won against the Dolphins easily with a ball control offense, but for some reason we are throwing in the snow??? It just doesn't me sense to me. I think having an above average QB dictates that.

Yup. I think we just let Ben heave it all around the field while we have him. Let him be the gunslinger he wants to be and see what happens. Right now we're kind of in limbo between letting 'er rip and doing the Haley smallball approach. Unleash the full fury of Ben Roethlisberger, pretty much no-huddle for the rest of the season, and see what kind of results we get. Activate Moye and go with a lot of 4-wide sets, put the pedal to the metal and don't let up until the final whistle blows in the Cleveland game. Let's just see if we can finally outscore some people.

Maybe Tomlin was hired for other intangibles than just his resume. He came in and put on a great interview, whereas Russ Grim looked like he just rolled out of bed. Beyond that, why he was hired is no longer relevant. I expect him to stay and expect him to take a more active role in the defense post DL.
