I'm not saying he's a bust or giving up on him but come on I was watching him on most plays, and he just gets shutdown by the o-lieman. Dude needs to hit the weight room and put on 15 lbs of muscle he's not strong enough to bull rush or quick enough to beat his man. Woodley and Worilds should be the starters Jones starts and goes the whole game without making a play.

Jarvis definitely looks small out there. He needs to work on his pass rush skills.

For as good as Worlids is on the left side, he is no better that Jarvis when he is on the right side it seems...

Woodley better get healthy quick if he knows what is good for him.

Yea, I like the kid, but he always seems to be manhandled by the left tackle. I don't know if it is strength or technique, but it appears we have a "project" in him, and no one else as good to start.

Yeah I've not been very impressed with him at all this year. But he is a rookie and I think he just needs to develop and get stronger. Remember how everyone thought Heyward was a bust and now look at him. He's got some huge shoes to fill replacing Harrison.

Sorry, but 1st round picks should not have to take 3 years to "develope".

As opposed to riding the bench all year with some ST duties? While of course I would have liked to have seen more production, JJ is way ahead of the curve when it comes to the Lebeau defense.

You've just stated my biggest problem with the LeBeau scheme, and why it's a dinosaur. Under the new CBA, teams no longer have the luxury of a long learning curve with draft picks. The top picks need to be productive ASAP because they could be gone in the blink of an eye AND because they will often be replacing guys who jetted very early in the careers for greener (as in $$$) pastures.

I will say that before the draft I posted a thread about being very unsure whether JJ would be able to impact for a few years because he seems to lack functional strength. A lot of folks dismissed that because of his production in the SEC, but I watched several games and my eyes told me that he is not a powerful man. It's looking that way so far.

I think Jarvis is good. But, he needs to work on his strength, you just can't loop around guys in the NFL. sometimes you got to go through him, and he isn't strong enough. Hopefully he this the weight room this off season. Sometimes it takes a little while to get it going, look at Jason Worilds for example, everybody was saying he was a bust 8-9 weeks ago.

You are spot on Steel Elvis, I too have been clamoring for years about immediate impact guys, as has Art II. Wants his players rising quickly,DL defense does not allow for this.I hope Jarvis
realizes that he needs to get into the weight room and also hone his other skills. This is not college
where possibly the guy playing across from you will be getting on with their lifes work, the guys
playing across from you now get PAID to play. The key in player evaluation is will they
TRANSITION to the pro game. Obviously we do good at some positions and others OL/CB we have not.

I would put him beside Timmons, there's your outside speed with those 2 back there. then draft another outside LB

One thing i have noticed is that he holds his own on the edge in the run game. He gets good leverage. He does need to get stronger but don forget he is very young

Wasn't Harrison cut early in his career? And yet, he was DPOY, y stands for year (emphasis added). Give him time, if he was a QB, we would say it is growing pains. Timmons took a few years to develop. Heyward is finally starting. Give him some time, let him develop through the offseason and see where he is next year.

Harrison got cut 4 times,3 times by us, and once by the ratbirds. JJ is getting double teamed at times too, but if he doesn't pan out on the outside, him and Timmons would be monsters together, JJ would get a nice running start towards the line. Since Worilds is better on the left maybe try Injury prone Woodley on the right

    Good post.

It always amuses me when people talk about the need to draft immediate impact guys. Like the FO is sitting there going: "well, that guy could be in the pro bowl this season, but let's pick this guy instead, who will take 8 years before he gets good".

I'm thinking it technique and experience. Dumervil about the same size, Mathis (Colts) looks about the same size, Von Miller looks about the same size. But adding muscle definitely doesn't hurt.

The guy graduated from college at the end of spring.

Let's give him a full off-season to work out in the weight room before deciding he won't be strong enough in his 2nd season.

Mathis is very similar in size to JJ, as is Von Miller. Dumervil is 3 inches shorter and 15 lbs heavier, so he isn't really that close to the same size. But anyways, I agree that it is technique and experience. College football is mainly just about being a better athlete than everyone else, as all the teams with the best athletes are ranked in the top 10 this year (Bama, FL St., Ohio St., Oregon, Baylor etc.) Yeah, it wouldn't hurt for JJ to gain a little muscle, but he just needs to learn the "little things" that make a great OLB in the NFL that you just can't learn in college. You just can't out-athlete people in the NFL, everyone is a freak of nature athlete. Once he gets it, he will be fine because you can tell that he has a lot of talent.
