I'm a really traditional guy. I'm also a creature of extreme habit. So when I see things like this it kinda bothers me a little and I would like to get other people's thoughts on it. Maybe it's not this way in other parts of the country but it seems like around here businesses are putting their Christmas decorations out earlier and earlier. Actually before HALLOWEEN I saw a Christmas display at the grocery store! Doesn't that take some of the fun out of the season? I've always thought you should put your tree and lights and all that up the day after Thanksgiving and leave them up til New Years. I sorta look at putting up decorations early as the same as adding more games to the NFL season. The fact that the holiday season is so short is what makes it more special and I think the same goes for the NFL as well. What do you guys think? How early is too early to put up decorations? I say if it's before Thanksgiving it's too early.

Mine are up all year long! No, usually put them up around the first week of December. After Thanksgiving is a good rule of thumb though, I'll agree with that.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is tradition in my area.

And taken down immediately after New Year's.

I'm a grinch, so December 24th is too early for me. I just hate the holiday, and I don't know why.

Actually, it's probably because it's so damn commercial and people go into debt to buy stuff that people don't need. You shouldn't need a special day to buy someone gifts. And, I think the meaning of the holiday has long been lost. /soapbox

It's definitely commercialism on steroids. I actually get a little depressed around the holidays too. But really when the leaves start to change and die is the time of the year I dread the most.

I don't think I've noticed grocery stores putting up decorations yet. I will say that it's ridiculous how early retailers try to start the season, though. I remember a few years ago I was going into Lowes for something or other, and I was shocked to see all the decorations and trees for sale already. It was like walking into Santa's workshop, and it was only October 7th.:facepalm:

I'm with you BFT. Dracula barely has his day and Christmas decorations are up. When I went to get Halloween candy a few weeks ago to pass out for trick-or-treat, the grocery store had Christmas music playing and there were Christmas decorations for sale next to the Halloween decorations. It was pretty ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but stores are just trying to cash in on as much money as they can as soon as possible, regardless of whether or not Halloween or Thanksgiving have had their moment. It drives me nuts.

We have a tradition that we've kept since my wife and I got married, and now we still do this with our kids. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, we get out the decorations and put the tree up while listening to Christmas music. Then we all sit near the tree and watch Christmas Story.

Yeah we put ours up on Black Friday or the next day and watch Mickey's Christmas Carol because it's my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Actually Charlie Brown is the one that is truest to the message though.

Maybe a waste of a reply, since all I am doing is agreeing, but...
    YESSSS!!!!
Anytime before Thanksgiving is over, is waaayyy too early to be pushin Christmas!
Living in the same state as "SteelinOhio", I had the exact same experience.
Go to to get trick or treat candy, and they have x-mas music playing, and displays out!...
    WRONG!!! Just, WRONG!!!
Also, the story in the local paper, from 2 or 3 days ago, about people ALREADY camping out in front of Best Buy, to be first in line, for the "Black Friday" doorbusters, that I think they have even pushed a day earlier, to "Brown Thursday", if I remember reading the story right...
They aren`t even letting Thanksgiving Day happen, and be over with, before they launch their X-mas marketing blow-out...
Yeah, because getting in fights with strangers, over getting the latest gadget, at a huge discount, is what the season`s all about!(Insert obvious sarcasm icon, here)... Sheesh... What a country!
    GO STEELERS!

    Brown Thursday! :roflmao:

I haven't heard that before. Don't know why it's funny. I guess I was thinking that you live in Ohio and the Browns suck, and it sucks that Thanksgiving is the new Black Friday. I dunno.

WTH is with pushing it to Thursday? I really don't like or understand that...not that I go out on Black Friday. I don't think that would go well.

I know man. It's really crazy how people will line up and run through stores to get something a little cheaper. I a full blown free market capitalist but dude can't SOME things still be sacred???? It's like they just take all the magic out of stuff. The other day on the radio they were already playing Christmas music! It's not even Thanksgiving! I saw a story somewhere the other day that said that stores HAVE to be open on Thanksgiving to "stay in business" and I was like "WHAT!?" If closing your doors for just one day would shut your business down you have more problems than you know.

I`m with both of ya... "Brown Thursday" is just a completeley stupid idea(along with being a horrible name to call it)...
But, I think Macy`s, or some chain store like that, decided they would try to "beat the competition", and open a day earlier than the already ridicuolus tradition of "Black Friday".
Well, things being what they are, nowadays, once word got out that one store was gonna do it, pretty much all tyhe others have "fallen in line", so as not to lose any potential sales.
It`s really disgusting, to me, anyhow.
The whole "Black Friday" doorbusters thing was never something I liked, or would even consider doing, myself, anyhow.
I had 2 previous girlfriends, that were into getting up insanely early, and fighting the crowds for those deals in the past...
I always said, "Have fun. See ya when you get home"...
Probably part of the reason they are both PREVIOUS gf`s... LOL...

LOL. My wife does that stuff. She gets like this natural high from getting good deals. She's one of those extreme coupon people as well so Black Friday is just feeding the beast. LOL. I was talking to my mother in law about this the other day and she said that my wife's little brother's girlfriends house already as FIVE trees up in it! FIVE!!! BEFORE Thanksgiving and besides that that's just not normal anyway! There is such a thing as overboard. See National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and you will know what I mean. LOL.

One of the local radio stations just did their yearly format flop to 24/7 Christmas music today.

    Someone shoot me.

Yeah I love listening to the music but NOT until the dang holiday! I think I'm gonna start having and annual cookout on March 19 and shooting firecrackers all night just to get a jump on Independence Day. I mean who could judge me based on this nonsense? LOL. Everyone is invited to my Independence Day Spectacular this coming March 19!

At least, I will finally have a place to blow stuff up, without the neighbors callin the cops on me!!!...:goofy:... LOL!!!
Seems like, every year, I try to find a more "remote" area to celebrate our Nation`s Independance, and, STILL I manage to piss sumone off enuff, that the local law enforcement agency gets called to tell me to "tone it down"..
Even tho othr people are doin the same thing, and my "display", isn`t much bigger than anyone else`s..
Time to go "Waaaayyy back in the sticks..."... Thanks for the invite! LOL... And Merry Christmas. I`m pretty sure I won`t offend YOU, by not using the generic "Happy Holidays" phrase.
    Enjoy yer turkey first, tho!
