guys this team is below .500. we don't need to worry about drafting replacements for players 2 and 3 years down the road. the next couple of drafts we need players now. heath is far, far from the problem. he can still play at a high level. ike, clark, oline that should be what we need to replace. not draft someone who can come in 3 years from now

It's not like Eifert is tearing up the league either. Heath at 60% healthy is better than Paulson at 100%.

This is the reason why freak is right. I think this year we ought to pick Colt Lyerla later in the draft (4-6 round) while the rest of the league is busy worrying about his off the field issues. We could get that athletic freak type of player while drafting immediate starters in the first 3 rounds.

As of today, I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole with the Bengals holding it, and I think there's probably about a 0% chance the Steelers would either. He may not even be draft eligible come Spring. If we're taking a TE, let's take Fiedorowicz.

I disagree with this, as it's very tough for rookies to come in and replace a vet at equal or better performance. You need to think 2 or 3 years out, so when it's time to cut the cord, they're ready to roll. We're not getting a starting CB, S, TE and OL for next year in 1 draft.

Didn't he also stand there and look at the ball on the ground when he did fumble? Or was that someone else.

Wow... Just Wow... With all the problems we`ve had this year, HEEEAAATTTHHH has become a focal point?
Yes, he has had some "sub-par" play, based on the standards he has set for himself throughout his career...
But, the "drop" in the endzone yesterday, was hardly an EASY catch...
And on top of that, I really didn`t think he would even be back on the field, `tilll about halfway thru this season.
Cut the dude a LITTLE slack, for playing thru this injury, even if he would never use it as an excuse, himself...
Aside from all that, Yeah, we do need to be thinking about finding his replacement.
30 yrs old in the NFL, is old, in general, but I believe Heath is good for at least 2 more years(maybe more), and worth every penny.
Especially, if he can help teach his replacement...
    Get off his back!
Look up how many receptions he had before he ever had his first fumble, or the percentage of receptions,he has had, versus fumbles per touch...
He is one of the most reliable players we have EVER had, and, if he wasn`t trying to get back on the field so soon, after his injury last year, I doubt he would have "struggled" so much this year...
Give the man credit for coming back to help his team!:herewego!:
    GO STEELERS!!!

I seems to me the other TE's had a shot to unseat Heath as the starter. We need more than just a pass catching TE to help out this team.

    I hear ya, Coastal.
My response was aimed more at the posters who felt we should just let Heath go after this year...
Not you, or even the O.P., who recognized his value to our team...
Just can`t believe some people wanna throw Heath in the trash, because he isn`t doing as well as he usually does...
    That`s all...
    GO STEELERS!!!

Well, it is now complete. Heath was the last hold out and even here no one touched him. Every player, coach, and owner, would be gone per this board at one time or another. That is, except for one, Heath Miller remained above reproach.

    Until now.

Hello friends! Some folks here keep saying that Heath is "coming off an injury" . Does this mean that his injury wasn't fully healed and he should not of come back so soon? Or does it mean that it is still healing and as time goes on it will keep getting better? Or does it mean the more he plays the stronger his knee will get? Or does it mean that once his "coming off a injury" period is over, he will be faster and not drop as many passes?

It means no, he probably wasn't 100% when he came back. It mean yes, the more he plays the stronger the knee will get. It also means he missed all of OTAs, training camp, Preseason and the beginning of the regular season. I'm amazed by the people who think these guys can step back on the field after missing all of that time and not have any down games shaking the rust and getting their timing back.

Guys if the Steelers draft a TE this year they should go after Fiedorowicz from Iowa. Being a Hawk fan the guy is a match up nightmare. He plays in a pro-style offense that is run first pass second. Honestly he is under untilized in my opinion at Iowa and it could be the defenses are scheming to take him out of the game. He is 6'7 played high school basketball and can run and jump with the best of them. The question is how high will he go. I think he would be a good match with Heath. I think sooner or later we need to look for Heath's replacement but to say he is done is ludicrous. The development of AB will extend Heath's career not shorten it.

We need just more than one option at TE. It would be nice to have two weapons at TE since we run a lot of 2 TE sets. But I think OL, CB, FS are more of a priority than TE. I would also love a Sammy Watkins type receiver on this team but you can't have it all... :)

He is a stud especially in the red zone. Several times you watch him basically post up the LB or DB in the end zone and use his body to shield the ball from the defender. Him and Heath would be a terrific combination. The question is what round does he go in. I would love for them to draft Sherff the LT from Iowa also. Sherff is a junior so not sure if he will stay in school but it would be nice to get a couple of Hawks wearing black and gold on Sunday's!!! :)

in my original post i never said lets get rid of Heath. i simply asked if people thought he was done. i personally am on the fence about that.

is he still effective? yes, but hes not a top 10 TE at this point in his career healthy or not. look around the league. this is a passing league now and you need a TE that can not only stretch the field, but can be a big playmaker in the redzone. Heath does not fit into either of those categories.

his knee injury has nothing to do with his hands. he just isnt the sure handed guy he once was. hes already dropped 2 easy td passes this season and his blocking isnt nearly as good as is was. the blocking can be attributed to the knee injury, but even last season his blocking started to tapper off.

again im not saying get rid of him. i just think they need to find his replacement sooner than later. the Steelers have a tendency of waiting too long to replace guys and the TE position has become too much of a key position to wait on.
