Joe Flacco's wife gave birth to their second child today and he didn't go because he wanted to play in the game today. I remember having this discussion about Ben's kid and whether we would be mad if he missed a game for his kid's birth. I personally would think it was wrong for him to miss the birth. I know people who don't have kids can't REALLY understand the magnitude of the moment when your child comes in to the world but those of us that do can say there's nothing like it. I was just curious what you guys thought about it? I personally think he made the wrong decision and it has nothing to do with the fact that he's a rats player. I will just add this to the list though. LOL. I wouldn't have wanted Ben to miss his kid's birth and I don't think it's right for Flacco to do it either. If ball players are role models there's no better way to be a role model than to be a father that's always there. Also how do you explain to your kid when they say "hey daddy where were you when I was born?" and he says "I was playing against the clowns" and then wouldn't you think your kid would say "I could understand if you missed me for the Steelers! But the CLOWNS???" LOL. That's just my opinion.

    Doesn't affect me.

I'm sure he and his wife discussed what to do if this came up and they agreed he'd play. That's good enough for me. If he missed the game to be there, that also would be good enough for me. It's a personal decision and not for me to decide.

If it had been me, I'd be there for the birth. But I'm sure Joe sped off to the hospital the instant the game was over.

    Total non-issue.

He would be raked over the coals no matter which decision was made. It's a total damned if you do damned if you don't scenario.

    What do i think?
Its a private matter between husband and wife as to the decision they
made. Its not for us to sit here and judge if its was right or wrong.. right preacher man?

Well family comes before work and that's an actual principle. If they came to that decision together, which I'm sure they did, they both have questionable decision making skills. A man needs to be there to support his wife in that time. I just think it shows poor judgment on his part and out of whack priorities.

I respect your opinion..I for one can't see it having any negatives going forward as to an oriented football family. They will be fine! FlakeO still sucks!! :smiley1:

Nah. This whole "Dad is there for the birth" thing is relatively new. My Dad's generation and on back, the father was rarely there for the birth, and almost never in the room. ;)

Don't get me wrong, it's good, and even preferable IMO for the father to be there. But it isn't necessary. The kid's not going to remember it. ;)

Yeah they wouldn't be in the delivery room but they would be at the hospital. When I was born they didn't know what I was going to be and my dad was sitting there on pins and needles hoping for a boy. I was an emergency c-section and he was scared to death. I think the reason a man should be there is because there could be complications like that and he needs to be there for his wife. I was surprised when Ben was born that they would just check you in to a room and deliver the baby right there in the very room where you are staying. It's amazing how far things have came really. Since he was also a c-section though only I could be back there but when Natalie was born there were multiple people in the room. I wonder why they used to not allow that?

I'm in no position to judge them. If they both agreed that he would play, that was the right decision for them.

Well they kinda did lose since Ray Rice got hurt. Do you know the extent of that btw? I heard it was something weird with his hip.

They're saying it's just a strained hip flexor. He'll be questionable for a while, but it's not too serious.

Always possible they learn it's worse than thought today or tomorrow though.

Must just be me but I don't even think it's a question-you play the game then visit the wife and child. You have your whole life to sit with the wife and kids, a pro football career is very short and birthdays and holidays and stuff like that have to wait. That's why they get paid the big bank.

I think he's out of his freaking mind but it's his and his wife's decision. On the other hand, if she wanted him there and he still played in the game then he's a total dick.

My dad was navy and was at sea when my brothers and I all were born. Oddly, we don't remember it.
Doesn't matter what JoeFlacco's decision was He's not the father anyway.
