How do you refer to the Steelers?

I was thinking about this and I've had many people point this out to me and I've noticed fans of other teams do this too but when I am talking about the Steelers I say "we" or "our". So if I'm talking to someone about our draft I would say "WE had a good draft". Or if I was talking to someone about the offensive line I would say "Our offensive line is very offensive." Some people that are not big sports fans think this is a stupid way to refer to a team that I'm not ACTUALLY a member of and I do think it's an odd habit but I think the reason, well for me anyway, that a person picks a team to like is basically because that team has some sorta trait that you "identify" with. For me I like the no-nonsense, hard work, and gritty blue collar attitude of the Steelers and view them as an extension of how maybe I view myself or just that they espouse the values that I also espouse. So I will say "WE" have 6 Super Bowls even though I wasn't even ALIVE for 4 of them. So what say you guys? When you refer to the Steelers what do you say or have you ever even thought about it before? I also even refer to the fanbase as "WE". Does anyone else do that as well?

I call them the six-time superbowl champs. I'm guessing no one else has thought of that.

Saying "we" when referring to a team one is a fan of is simply shorthand. Anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together would understand that.

Only a severely anal retentive, obsessively picky, or monumentally pedantic, boorish nitwit would take serious issue with it.

And you can tell them I said so. :)

I have always referred to them, like I`m on the team....
    "Us", "We", "Our",etc...
I never even really thought about it until it was pointed out in a sports column talking about fans, in general, that I read a few years ago.
Yeah, I get the point, but people gotta remember, "Fan", is just short for "fanatic"!!!:herewego!:
Also, the chant was never "There you go Steelers, There you go!!!"... LOL....
Anyonee that gets that uptight about it, I will refer to RayD.... He had the perfect responce to that!
Can`t wait to see US crush sum Titans on Sunday!
    GO STEELERS!!!:herewego::towel::yeehaw::steelflag::herewego!:

I think we, as fans, have every right to refer to the Steelers with first person pronouns such as "we" and "our". The Steelers family consists of the players (current and former), coaches, front office personnel, ownership AND FANS! We're all part of Steeler Nation and we all play crucial roles within its existence.

I tell that "fanatic" thing to my wife all the time when she complains about how much time I spend on this site and others just keeping tabs on MY team! LOL! She's like "I love UT but I don't spend EVERY second of the day thinking about them" and I'm like "yeah but my buddies at work DO". It's funny that fan is short for fanatic but also there is sort of a difference between the two. The word "fan" has taken on a life of its own and sometimes you will meet a person who likes a team but they will talk about someone else they know who REALLY likes a team and say "I'm not like them. They are a FANATIC". I consider most of us on here to be fanatics but really well grounded ones.

The Steelers. I don't play for them so I don't say "we" or "our".

I flop all over the place. I say they, we, our, The Steelers, whatever. I respect people choosing to say/view it however they want. The only thing I don't get is anyone who would judge someone like me, i.e., "You've never been a Steeler so you shouldn't say 'we.'" I don't know if I can explain why, but that bothers me.

    Oh, that's it.

:this!: Same here, pretty much whatever pops into my head. I think though, that I probably tend to say "we" when talking to another Steeler fan and "they" when I'm not.

I almost always say "we" to a non-fan just because I want to rub it in that I'm a fan of the greatest franchise of all time and he's not. It's like "I'm Chevy Chase... and you're not..." LOL.

Players come and go but Steeler fans are born live it for their entire lives...it's "us" and "we". No doubt about it.

I AM THE STEELERS....WE ARE THE STEELERS.....THEY ARE OUR TEAM...WE ARE ON THE TEAM.

The arguement that you have to be on the team to say "we" "us" etc is simply wrong.

I have never wore another teams jersey....another teams hat...flown another teams colors....James Harrison is a Bengal....I never will be....how many Steelers are wearing Cardinal colors?

We have more more loyalty to OUR STEELERS...than any player has...to them its a business to us its a passion....the players change loyalty based on who offers them a paycheck.....

WE ARE THE 6 TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION STEELERS

I feel the same as Hack. I have been a part of this team longer than anyone on the team, including coaches. I've been through the good, the bad and, yes, the ugly. I have felt every emotion a person can towards the Steelers. I don't have to play for or coach the team to be a part of it...in spirit I am part of this team. I may not take as much pride in my team as I do one of my children, but damn, they are a close second. Really, what is the point of being a fan of any certain team if you don't feel like you are a part of the team. Take it a step further...most teams boast about having that 12th man on the field because of the noise/confusion fans can make. Seems to me like the teams embrace us fans as part of their team. Anyhow, call them what you want but just remember that OUR team is the best team in all the NFL!

I try not to refer to them as we, but frequently do. It doesn't bother me when people do, it just feels strange to me. There are times when I'll edit and rephrase a post if it contains a we, but other times it's left alone.
