My guess is that it's a bit like what happens with the players when the CBA gets negotiated.

For the PA, they aren't going to fight super hard for the things that benefit the super-high end players (e.g., people were talking about getting rid of the tag in another thread). Because they make up a small percentage of the league. So when it's one member one vote, it's never going to pass and they're going to do things that end up being better for the majority of players who can vote (i.e., not the rookie wage scale which got approved by a group of players who wouldn't be affected by the decision at all).

Similarly for the owners, if 29 / 32 teams don't care about this issue...we'll, it's probably not going to be a big deal in CBA negotiations.

    That's my guess anyway.

    Yeah that’s pretty obvious. It’s a shame.

Bell was offered like 14 Mill per and only one year guaranteed. It wouldn’t have hurt us if he didn’t pan out after the 1st year.

Its not like the whole amount was guaranteed. That’s the wild part. People act like it was a Watson contract.

and how many playoff games did we win with DJ, Mitch, Claypool, etc?

That makes no sense as a counter to my. point about Bell. The man broke rushing records in his first year in the playoffs and we made an AFCCG.

If DJ or Claypool broke records in the playoffs while on our way to an AFCCG you would have a point.

Nope.. this is a warped view of wealth.

Only 2.5% of Americans have 1 Million saved in retirement. Elon and other Billionaires are the .001%.

Generational wealth is simply having a decent amount of money and assets to pass down to your kids.. and your kids kids..

so JPJ making $30 mill a year for 3 to 5 years which is like 60 mill after taxes is indeed generational money.

We have become delusional when viewing money because we have a few Billionaires and now we scoff at 100 Mill like its not real money. 85% of us will never make that type of money.. and most will never make that much in 3 years.

You’re being pragmatic, people who are rich tend not to be and it dries up fast.

To me it’s 200 million or more. Then you and your family and generations down the line are never worrying about money again.

Billy Joels property taxes were half a million dollars. He’s not a billionaire.

No more laughable than the Steelers waiting until last week to give an offer to JPJ. And don't give me the last minute signings of other Steelers players. Those numbers take weeks to come to a conclusion. Information is passed back and forth well in advance before any signing. Back in August MM reported they were at an impasse. How do you get to an impasse without any numbers traded?

Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Monday that the team is at an "impasse" in contract negotiations with cornerback Joey Porter Jr., and ESPN's Brooke Pryor reported that sources said that "there hasn't been any meaningful progress in extension talks." A source also told Pryor that the Steelers "haven't made or received any trade calls on Porter."

So, you can believe the parts you want or believe none of it.

    Well t carries on the

$20,000,000.00 is the mark. With that amount you can set up million-dollar trust funds for your children, take care of aging parents, and buy most of the toys minus the most expensive hobby, yachting. You can put half in cash and layer it with safe yields in the mid-single digits. Done right, that can help you hold purchasing power keeping that amount alone past inflation. Done wrong, inflation and taxes eat it. Most people are financially illiterate, so they lose ground even when they think they are being conservative.

Something is wrong with the dollar. Inflation has steadily cut its purchasing power. A lot of the crypto people I've meet are betting against it ( the dollar ) . My working theory is simple. The banking system does not hold anything close to full reserves, confidence in fiat is weakening, and people can see AI coming for a huge share of ordinary jobs. AI stress and psychological issues among people is very real. Give it five to ten years and more of daily money will live in electronic cash. That is why gold and silver have been running sky high in the commodities markets. You cannot print gold...yet. You can print currency illegally. People are starting to price that difference.

    Back to football.

Your #'s are way off. All of them. .001% of the USA is billionaires?

USA has a total of 1,265 billionaires. This is 0.00037%.

If you mean millionaires after selling everything and paying off debts (house, retirement accounts, stocks, businesses — net worth of $1 million+), the latest count is around about 24 million people in the United States. About 14 % of Americans.

    Don't listen to politicians.

Looks like Steelers may have to make an exception to their policy of not negotiating during the season.
I have only seen this happen with AB.

Interesting. Wife and I always think everybody has more money then us but it seems we are part of that 2.5%. We live modest in an area where there are tons of 3-4 million dollar homes. That's it I'm moving;)

Joey Porter Jr. said Friday he’s “not really” expecting an extension before the Falcons game. The Steelers don’t negotiate once the season starts. He’s listed as questionable with a back injury after being limited all week. He came off the PUP list in late August so he can play Week 1. He still won’t say he will.Answers so far: “I don’t know.” “I have to talk to my agents.” “Yeah, for sure… maybe.”We need a plan for the what-if.

He’s under contract for 2026 at about $3.9 million cash. Pittsburgh can franchise-tag him in 2027 in the $23–24 million range. That part is not complicated. The Steelers hold the hammer. Most likely if nothing happens tonight or tomorrow: he sits Week 1 citing the back and conditioning, or he plays and the whole thing freezes until next offseason.Either way, if he holds out for multiple games we have to treat this as a business decision. Sentiment is not a roster-building strategy. A trade for Porter Jr. should start at a first-round pick. Not a second and a prayer. A first from a team ready to pay him. If we’re not paying him, someone else will. Get the pick while his value is still a first and not a discount because he’s in the building and not on the field. Lot of teams could use a high end #1 corner. Take the best offer.

I would treat Porter jr like a punk kid ( only among Steelers management, not in the media ) and shop his rights. He had all offseason to negotiate. Clearly he is being unreasonable. If he does't report on Sunday... I have seen this movie before. It does not end well.

It’s up to you to make up your own mind and decide who to listen to.Take the value of your house, minus the mortgage. Add the rest of your assets, then subtract any debt. That’s your net worth. I’m in the top 14% too. Fortunate.

What is this mortgage you speak of;) We have not had a mortgage or car payments for many years. We were young and our first mortgage was a whopping 30 year at 12.5% interest. Once we started many decent money we paid if off in 14 years.

If you're argument is that people who are bad with money blow through money without thinking, there isn't enough money to ever have generational wealth.

Because someone, somewhere can consume enough hookers and blow to burn through it.

Every argument you're making about $30mm not being enough can also be made about $200mm and even $1B.

Steelers blessed again with clean injury report. Cooper Rush was an abomination for Ravens last year. Steelers don’t need him in this game. That said he will suit up and play during the game to get paid.

If all of this is indeed true then it should be understood by Joey and his Agent and all they need to do is look at the history of the Steelers doing right by their players. As a result the garuntee in this situation is only semantics and should not be an issue. The only reason it would be an issue is if Joey and his agent want to make it an issue which appears to be the case. I even dislike Joey more now as a result.

JPJ can't use that back injury as an excuse the whole season, he's under contract so either play or sit out and get fined.
