Tua collapsed on the ground at practice today with severe back spasms and is in a lot of pain with under 72 hours until kickoff. Penix is already ruled out and Cooper Rush is the next guy according to Fox Sports.

If Tomlin was coaching.... I'd be sh!tting bricks with a backup QB like Rush. But this is McCarthy. If Steelers run D don't sh!t the bed and Rodgers can get the ball out quick... should be a win. On paper.

He better be looking to retire before a life threatening injury happens to him. He's just one big hit away from something tragic.

Scary. Long since the signs pointed to retirement. Go coach. Podcast. Analyst. I'd be scared to lay a hit on the dude.

Cooper Rush did ok under McCarthy. Rather have Rush than Tua but they're both two turds.

First, hope Tua is ok and secondly, this matchup just keeps getting better for the Steelers.

For now, Cooper Rush is backing up Tagovailoa, with Jack Strand third on the unofficial depth chart. In the event Tua is ruled out, some fans will likely call for Strand to vault into the starting role.

Rush is a career backup who combined to go 25-of-39 for 251 yards and four interceptions his two starts with the Baltimore Ravens in 2025.

Strand is an undrafted rookie who competed at Minnesota State Moorhead, a Division II school. Needless to say, the NFL would be a massive step up, but a team in Atlanta's position may not have much to lose.

Tua is a ticking time bomb. I hope he retires. His body is just not built for football. The concussion history, the constant durability questions, and now another injury scare before Week 1. It’s an ugly black eye the NFL should still be afraid of.

Honestly, I cringe just watching him play. I can't help wondering if he's going to take another blow to the head and die on the field.

A backup QB would surprise and confuse Steelers Defense in the recent past.

Injuries and Tua go back to the Crimson Tide days. He was brittle then. It's amazing that he's still in the NFL.

Steelers got a lucky break. Not that Tua is all that great, but things should be easier against Cooper Rush.

Maybe. At his best, Tagovailoa is a tough matchup because those quick, rhythm passes can give a team so reliant on outside pass rush trouble, but how often is he really at his best?

I don't understand the Jab at Tomlin. Or, are you saying thank god Mike Tomlin is not coaching the Falcons, because Tomlin can beat you with QBs like Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges.

Mike Tomlin was able to make the Playoffs with some really bad QBs.

He was successful with back up QB’s but not very good at playing against them.
