he voluntarily sat out which is different from getting inured and working your way back to prove you still got it.

Bell was smoking weed and getting robbed by escorts.

I’ve asked over and over and no one can ever give a legit answer on how we got better as a team without Bell. I could see if we returned to an AFCCG or even won a playoff team or 2 but we haven’t won a playoff game since he left.

but the brag is he looked bad after a year off playing with the Jets.

    what about us? lol

I mean.. its the price you pay for drafting a player and he plays top 5 football.

If he was an OLB we would’ve backed up the truck for him already.

Both is true. We regressed without him. He was in a system perfectly suited for him. Both sides lost with his decision.

And Antonio Brown going off the rails was shortly after.

We once had the killer B's. Then, in what felt like a blink, Bell went awol, Brown went off the rails, Ben's arm failed.

    He is not top 5

They didn’t pay as much to Herbig

    So wrong on both counts

Im assuming the big difference is JPJ wants is the guaranteed money. That’s what Herbig didn’t get and will be easy for the Steelers to get out of down the road if need be.

Porter is the equivalent of playing with house money. We got him for Chase Cesspool. If he holds out very long I look to trade him.

Not sure what we’d get in return, maybe a #2 round pick.

I wonder if the Steelers leak these contract offers. I seem to remember hearing Bell's contract offer as well.

Is it better for the Player or Team to get out the offer? Seems like Fans would like knowing the team has made an offer.

I believe the leaked "Info" last week was that the Steelers never made an offer. And, I would bet everything that "Info" came from Porter's agent.

    The Steelers did not budge

    He signed

Most or all of it is random people making up clickbait

It’s like when Pickett left and people believed info was leaked by the Steelers rather than believing the facts

I assume he meant an outside linebacker of comparable ability and performance. Porter has established himself as a No. 1 cornerback. Herbig hasn't even established himself as a starter.

Not trying to back you into a corner, it's an honest question. Obviously you don't hand him a blank cheque, it has to be within reason. Do you pay him more than Gonzalez just got? Do you slot him where you think he belongs among the 4 guys who signed this off-season (Gonzalez, Witherspoon, Ward, McDuffie)? Does he pass them all because he waited them out the longest?

It’s an ego thing at this stage, you can’t tell the difference between 32 and 33 million.

Not sure what the market would bring. A young grabby CB already disgruntled.

    Maybe you get a # 1 maybe you don’t.

TJ's second contract went right to the wire IIRC. But I don't think it was as close to the regular season as Troy's (2nd?) contract.

I think Porter's contract is a little harder for the team because (1) the CB market moved a lot this year (2) we have one fewer year of cost control on Porter vs. TJ and (3) we've caved at least twice on where the line is on 2nd year guarantees since TJs contract (TJs contract was the first time we caved on this).

Just like with TJ (and Bell, and Troy, and Ward, and probably most other big contracts...except maybe Ben?), we're pushing the player to the wire to try to get what we think is the best deal we can get.

Just like Porter (like all those players listed above) are trying to push the Steelers to the wire to get the best deal they can.

This is just how the Steelers seem to do business with the biggest money deals. Yes, even for TJ. Herbig and Highsmith weren't going to end up in the top 3 contracts at their position. Porter probably will.

Certainly in the top 5 AAV IMO. Personally, I think he'll be 2nd by AAV if he signs a 4 year extension.

    I'm sure ego is involved.

But that $1mm is a difference per year in a 5 year contract (probably 4 if it's reported "correctly" as "new money average").

My guess is that you still notice $4-5MM over 5 years even when you have earned $120MM over that same period.

If someone cut my salary by 3% - 5%, I'd notice.

And if someone offered me a 3-5% pay increase for the same job (with the same general benefits), I'd probably leave my current employer. And if my career was only going to be 2-10 years long max, I'd jump ship in that case pretty close to 100 times out of 100.

What about the difference between $25 million and $30 million?

I was just going to mention this. Where is the poster that thinks the public was suckered in by the Steelers selling a story? And which story are they trying to sell; the 'no offer' story, or the 'lowball offer story'?
