I figured he wasn't going to make it to the PS. As long as Brown and Arnfelt make it I'm happy.

No surprise Arizona likes the Steelers castoffs.

Not a good sign that he couldn't beat out a 28 year old Fangupo. Very disappointing, they even traded up to get him, no? Hate wasted picks like that, never even made the squad.

While Fangupo may be older, he's just a better player. Hopefully Ta'amu can catch on with the Cardinals.

Very disappointing to see Ta'amu go, but just goes to show that you can't always anticipate how draft picks will pan out.

Ain't it the truth. If we've learned anything as Steeler fans over the last few years its that.

Some bad luck coming out of that draft, which first looked so great. If Sean Spence makes a comeback, that'd go a long way.

I was thinking they should have kept Ta'amu. He showed a lot of improvement from year 1 to year 2. Could have shown more before next year. He was a project all along, never the pro-ready type.

Then again, who would have anticipated Al Woods becoming such a beast at three positions? The positive way to look at this is that Ta'amu didn't fail to make the team because he busted, he was forced off by a terrific free agent find. Tomaeto, tomawto; we got what we were after. And Woods is only 26.

Good point about Al Wood. I've often wondered why it is that a player can struggle on some teams, be on and off rosters and practice squads and then all of a sudden have the light come on when placed in another situation.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Is Ta'amu free to leave for Arizona? I was thinking part of the reason he didn't make the 53 was because of his legal problems and facing some time even if it is community service. Did the league ever take any action against him for conduct detrimental to the shield? Like many have said he was a project and I didn't see him being a part of the 53 this year but maybe next season. I will be surprised to see how long he lasts in Arizona.

Some players can't adjust to the system they have to play in on one team, so if they go to another team they fit right into the schematic there, the style of offense and defense a player finds himself in on one team may not be comfortable for him to excel in, so when he goes to another team with a different philosophy he can fit right in, couple that with a new locker room, and coaching staff to his liking, and some players just become transformed from fair players, to quality players.....

Some guys are just naturals at certain things, but not others. This is probably why most people think Ziggy Hood would be a beast in a different system. As it is he's doing his best and getting the job done, but it's not natural for him. It's like speaking a foreign language. Perhaps Woods was speaking our language all along, and it didn't translate in NO/Tampa or wherever he was. Now he's home. Ryan Clark's another example.

a lot of the times it's the position coach he plays for too. some coaches can pick his bad habits up and fix them. some may not even see what needs fixing. it may not always be a scheme thing.

just like they talked about with fangupo and ta'amu, they had to unteach what they were used to first. younger position coaches may have a more difficult time of doing this. I think that had a lot to do with our WR's the last couple of years.

I think Mann is going to be good for our receiving corpse, I'm anxious to see what he does for this unit.

teaching them to block better has already helped out for the run game. he's seen it all over the years. they repect him and listen to him as more of a coach then a buddy. this was one of the best coaching moves that MT has made I think.

Too bad to see Moo go. Beast in college. Hopefully he doesn't turn into the player I think he could be.

Ta'amu was the one I figured would be picked up and he is. I thought the Steelers would keep him over Fangupo, wrong.

Ta'amu is a beast if he can keep his nose clean.

Could be, thing is it was a close match between him and gupo and the Steelers saw enough of the later to keep him around. Getting into trouble didn't help too.

    That's the way it goes.

I too figured out of the "top players" that were cut he would be the most likely picked up by another team. I thought Ta'amu played better than Fangupo during the preseason, made a couple plays, got some good push, took up some blockers, etc. I didnt notice Fangupo half the time he was in there...as but as of the beat writers/etc have said the team went with who they thought was the better player NOW versus potential upside/age. I wish him well.

LOL! Our receivers played like a bunch of corpses last year but hopefully they'll be resurrected and ready to go this year! :roflmao:

Sorry, BF. Couldn't let that one go.
