Two entirely different organizations. As such, the situations themselves are incompatible to be judged for how the Steelers and how the Browns have operated are in no way, shape or form similar; ever have been either.


As for your final statement, again, patience. For that matter, again, did I ever say we should skip on drafting a QB in said statement?! All I said was have patience. That is it.

I think the answer here is clearly no.

It's just buying another lottery ticket.

But you don't quit your job just because you bought a lottery ticket. Even if you have a really good feeling that this time you have the right numbers.

I've never won the lottery because I understand probability so I don't buy lottery tickets. But NFL teams are forced to play the lottery with QBs. So the solution to the problem is get as many lottery tickets as you can. This is the reason we're "using / wasting" a roster spot on Howard. He's almost certainly not going to be a long term NFL starter. But the team decided that the cost of the 53rd spot (e.g. cutting Roberts or whoever you think our best cut was) isn't all that high for the low-probability upside of him turning out.

I would have made the opposite decision because I think Howard would make it to the practice squad. But Roberts could also be on our practice squad if that's what we wanted. So the cost of putting Howard on the initial 53 was essentially nothing.

 

Playing the lottery often involves a myriad of factors; not just luck based. Luck definitely helps but understanding where the winning tickets are, at what times and most notably, which numbers are all important as well. Same goes for finding QBs; which Franchises they go to, who are the Coaching Staff that will work with them and most notably, what does the roster look like?!


More over to the point and, again, patience. The 2027 looks "good on paper". In practice?! Time will tell. Same goes for how much both Allar and Howard develop. The only people with that information is the Steelers.


For a much better rebuttal to your point on the Steelers missing out, make sure you keep up with which positions the team will scout throughout the season. That will give you a much clearer indication on what the team thinks of not just Allar and Howard but the 2027 NFL QB Class as a whole. Remember that NFL Teams scout these players two to three years before they declare. Scouting them as they are going to declare isn't just illogical but dangerous overall.


Now, as for which positions Pittsburgh have scouted?! So far, this article here showcases that the Steelers have interest in Safety, EDGE, ILB and WR help. Sam Leavitt technically can be added here but he isn't what I would consider a legitimate starting QB; much less a Franchise Altering one.

 

I am thinking like a GM.
1. If JPJ turns out to be a true shut-down corner, we would struggle to replace him.
2. Miami might be better than expected.
3. We need to find out what we have in Howard and Allar, throwing away two potential starting QBs in hopes of finding another one is crazy.

 

I don't think you are thinking like a GM in this case...maybe a GM for the Browns. Humor aside I will give you an example:

If Miami ends up with a very high 2027 pick. ( they might be the worst team in the NFL on offense ) and the quarterback class develops the way it currently looks, the value could be enormous. ESPN's early 2027 rankings have Arch Manning, Dante Moore, and C.J. Carr among the top QBs, and the 2027 class. These guys are off to hot starts.

San Francisco moved from No. 12 to No. 3 for Trey Lance and paid:

• 2021 1st
• 2022 1st
• 2023 1st
• 2022 3rd

As stated I would trade Joey Porter jr in a New York minute as Miami is trending like a top 5 pick.

We could give Allar the job in 2027 if he develops in 2026 and load up!

Or if Allar does not develop enough in 2026, then we take a top 5 QB in the NFL draft.

 

Passing has plummeted these last few years. Defenses have adjusted and play shell defenses. Philly gave the NFL the blue print on stopping all this pass happy crap.
