In fairness to Fields, he gave the Steelers the lead late in the fourth quarter and Dak and da 'boys carved up our defense like a T-day Turkey, posting the the winning TD late in the game. Elandon Roberts almost forced a T.O. but I think Dak recovered the goal line fumble.

Fields is a hellava athlete and has the heart of a lion, but a QB he is not.

Your post that I quoted had TLDR at the beginning of the post before the sentence you typed.

    Maybe I'm hallucinating.

I wasn't happy with the hire, but once hired, I always give someone a chance before I crush them.

He was a disaster in every way possible.

I think this is correct. We feel he has some value, so we will wait until we get a good price and ship him out. If it buys us 4-6 weeks with a more experience back up, then even better.

That is just your opinion. Stating it more dramatically doesn't make it fact. My opinion is that I would be perfectly happy to never see Rudolph on the field for the steelers ever again.

They probably got fooled by Pickett's last season at Pitt when he was a Heisman finalist.

I remember that game Dallas gave the Steelers two interceptions, but Fields could only put up three points by halftime.

that game was enough of me seeing Fields

There were other minor factors during Matt Canada’s time with the Steelers. None of them change the main fact. Mike Tomlin hired him and then promoted him. Canada was Tomlin’s guy. The offense stalled, the scheme never fit the roster, and the coordinator stayed in place longer than the results justified. That is not an assistant acting on his own. That is a head coach standing behind a hire he made. Canada was Tomlin's fall guy.

Canada was so bad they fired him while under contract, something they hadnt done in nearly a century.

    • Allar went 30-for-54 for 351 yards and 3 total touchdowns.
    • He played primarily with backup-level receivers, offensive linemen, and running backs, rather than consistently with the Steelers' top WR groups.
    • Several of his regular targets did not ultimately make the roster.
    • There were 8 catchable balls that were dropped that I counted.
    • If 7 of those 8 drops had been caught, his numbers would rise to 37-for-54 (68.5%), plus roughly 50+ additional yards.
    • The pass protection was poor.
    • The running backs he played with were also a step below Warren and Dowdle, particularly as complete runners and receiving options.
    • He had some inaccurate throws especially on more difficult intermediate/deep attempts and those should absolutely count against him.
    • But he didn't turn the ball over during the three games, which matters when evaluating a young quarterback.
When you factor the all of the above in, I give him a B+ for the preseason. For Rookies I look for them to flash talent. Allar flashed talent on the plays him made and the play his receivers missed.

Moving froward for the 2026 season, Allar should be no higher than the third QB. But I for one hope that he get a chance -- say 5% of the snaps to work with the #1'd during the season practices.

It will be very interesting to see how McCarty runs practice doing the preseason.

Rudolph is definitely better positioned to play now than either rookie. That being said we have seen what Rudolph can do which is nothing more than a couple game stop gap. You are not winning anything of importance with MR. I guess Howard isn’t a rookie but I still view him that way.

    Again ....one more time.
If Rooney let Arians go, and hired Haley, and Rooney knew Canada more than Tomlin did , what makes you think Tomlin hired him besides you want to think that???
You do know that when most people come up with conclusions they look at all the fact leading up to it.
Now without the dislike for Tomlin look at the facts leading up, and try again

NFL head coaches generally control their staffs more than most other sports, and a long-tenured coach like Tomlin had substantial latitude. He hired and fired Canada. All head coaches have this power. The floor is yours if you have any proof otherwise.

So explain how Tomlin didn't let Arians go, or hire Haley, or keep Lebeau??
Also tell me then how come we still have 2 coaches still from Tomlins staff. Im sure McCarthy didn't bring them.
See all this flies in the face of what you are saying.
Also somehow Rooney knew Canada longer, but it was Tomlin who hired him. LoL.
Some of You don't want facts, or anything that may resemble them. You want what you feel.

I grow weary of playing whack a mole on your head, only to see you keep changing topics.

Mike Tomlin let Bruce Arians go after the 2011 season.Arians had been Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator from 2007–2011. After that season his contract expired and the team did not offer him a new one. The Steelers initially described it as a retirement; Arians later said he was not given a contract and treated it as being let go. Tomlin publicly took responsibility. In March 2012 he said it was his decision and that he “thought that it was time for change.” Some contemporaneous reports suggested team president Art Rooney II may have been involved, but Tomlin stated the call was his. Arians was unhappy at the time and later said he felt betrayed. He quickly joined the Indianapolis Colts as offensive coordinator (and later served as interim head coach). He has since said he was ultimately thankful the Steelers moved on, because it opened the door to his later head-coaching success.

Bruce Arians was hired by Bill Cowher in 2004 as wide receivers coach. When Tomlin took over in 2007, he kept Arians and promoted him to offensive coordinator. Arians was not a Tomlin original hire. Dick LeBeau was first brought in by Cowher in 1992. He left, then returned in 2004 (still under Cowher) as defensive coordinator. Tomlin inherited him in 2007 and kept him through 2014. Tomlin was actually the only 2007 head-coach finalist who planned to retain LeBeau and the 3-4. Both were already established, successful coordinators when Tomlin arrived. They belong more to the Cowher era than to a Tomlin-built staff. That distinction matters for the “coaching tree” criticism. Tomlin’s own later coordinator hires (Todd Haley, Randy Fichtner, Matt Canada, Arthur Smith, Teryl Austin, :poopy: etc.) produced no NFL head coaches of note. Arians is the main name people cite, but he was already a longtime NFL assistant before Tomlin ever coached him. LeBeau never became a successful head coach (his Bengals tenure was poor). So yes: Arians and LeBeau were good coaches Tomlin inherited, not products of a Tomlin-developed tree.

    No charge amigo.

    - JB
