I wish it were that easy but then you run the risk of setting a precedent for your other future contracts.

‘when you look back on this now though it looks like Dallas got the better of the deal. If someone were willing to send a first rounder to the Steelers I’m sure they would take it especially with having Asante Samuel playing well. The fact that hasn’t happened makes me think the rest of the league doesn’t view JPJ quite like he views himself. I’m not sure a -ass rusher is easier to pick than a cb, I think it’s just we have had a lot of luck over the years with that so it appears to be that way. Scheme often can have a lot to do with both a cb and edge’s success. Look at how Bellicheck could take 5th round cb’s and turn the, into super stars. Of course I a;ways felt like the nfl let the {artists get away with a lot more pi than the rest of the teams. It also helps the DB’s when they have the cheat code from Bellicheck.

I want them to keep JPJ, but sometimes teams don't want to pay guys what they're worth at certain positions.

They(Steelers)weren't looking for trades. Why would you trade top young talent for a hope of drafting top young talent.
No matter how you feel. JPJ is the best CB we had since Taylor. That's a long time ago, and I can show how many 1st round draft bust at CB have happened in that time throughout the whole NFL.
CB, and Qb are the hardest two positions to judge from college to the pros

I don’t believe they were actively shopping him but Omar Khan said they were open to listen to trade talks - not about him specifically but I. General so that opened the door to not just talk about Jones etc but also JPJ. I’m assuming teams didn’t ask about him or didn’t offer up anything substantial.

Faked an injury. lol It is a hold-in, exactly what Watt and Heyward have done in the past. It is laughable that you would compare him to Bell with no evidence at all, just a narrative you wrote in your head.

That it hasn't happened tells us they don't really want to trade him.

Thankfully, the Steelers haven't been stupid enough to take a deal like that.

Didn't offer up enough to consider moving an emerging elite corner who is under team control at least two more years. You really seem quite bitter. Where was this fire when Watt held his hold-in?

There is always a new precedent. As long as a team isnt doing stupid contracts like the Browns it’s fine but even with the Browns the league said F-U and didnt let that become the norm so Im not worried about it. I never worry about the $, not with this team.

I can agree with him being top ten, not sure about top five but definitely not #1 or #2.

I wasn’t happy with Watt. However his first hold in was a little more ware Ted as he was considered the best edge at the time.

‘well the team needs a qb for the future first and foremost. We don’t know of that is Allar or Howard and the draft next year is supposed to be good for QB’s so it’s not a bad idea.

Watt and Heyward were open about holding in. They had a lot more tenure than JPJ does as well. JPJ clearly has faked a back injury there is no disputing that. You’re just purposefully contradicting me for the sake of arguing at this point. It’s not laughable that I’m comparing him to Bell. Bell was unreasonable and didn’t take a fair offer and ended up getting less on the open market. The Steelers are quite often pretty fair and even keeled on their assesment of their players. I know it’s popular for everyone to say they are cheap but that just isn’t true. The bottom line is success really only happens in this league with a true franchise QB. So do you want to put money into, assets like JPJ or accumulate draft assets thus increasing your chance of drafting that franchise QB of the future? The Browns finally wised up to that and traded away arguably the best defensive player currently in the league for that chance at a franchise qb next year.

I assume you meant warranted, but he set a precedent. That is what the leaders on this team did, hold in for more money.

Bell lied to his teammates and sat out actual games, something Porter has not done. That alone makes your comparison of the two a joke.

Given the explosion of the cornerback market this offseason, it's a little silly to say Porter is out of line, especially without knowing what he is asking for in his contract. Is he worth more than Witherspoon? No. Ward? Without question.

A shot across the bow from Omar:

“Not just Joey but anyone we feel is healthy and available to us, we expect them to practice,” Khan said, via multiple reporters.

Khan confirmed that the Steelers will not budge from their organizational philosophy of cutting of contract talks at the start of the regular season and said that he still hopes “Joey finishes his career here” while declining to delve into any details of where things stand on the negotiating front.

To me him coming off of the PUP was not so much of a decision by JPJr but rather the Steelers saying he is healthy enough to practice

The Steelers drew a line in the sand I suspect

Exactly. Heyward and Watt seemed a lot more agreeable than JPJ does. That’s what is so upsetting about all this.

It’s the way he is going about it. By all indications he is certainly acting like he is going to sit out. I truly hope my comparison is a joke. As of now I’m soured on the guy. Watt came to his senses and told his agent enough get the deal done. It’s very obvious he is trying to strong arm the Steelers. It’s going over real well for him. None of the other players this year with new contracts acted like this and they got deals. JPJ by the way is not watt or Heyward.

Yeah that’s real leadership. I always thought leadership was selfless and thinking of others before yourself. By the way he is acting yes your right he is thinking of the team first.

And the following year without Parsons, their defense couldn't stop a nosebleed and they got no pressure on the quarterback.

    What's your point?

LOL. How are you comparing that? Heyward's last hold-in did not seem friendly at all.

Wait. Watt and Heyward were being leaders and helping the team by refusing to practice until they got paid, but Porter is being a bad guy by following their example. That is the logic you are going with here?

‘They didn’t fake an injury. They specifically said what they were doing. They had tenure within the organization so while I didn’t agree with it they at least earned the right to demand a better contract. Heyward was demanding to be the highest paid either. Watt was but he did have multiple pro bowls, all pros and dpoy under his belt. The situation was a little different than JPJ’s is currently. Watt and Heyward signed before the season started. We will see of Porter does this. Porter has never been in a position of leadership on the team. He is still a young player. I just believe in that alone he should be acting differently.
