What are obvious running downs? And subbing Dunker in only gives the defense an easy tell.

After the preseason how could you not keep Mason as the backup QB. The two young guys are not close. Unless you want to tank of course.

Good question. I’d say 3rd-and-short or the goal line situations where analytics say a run is likely. The defense already knows it. We could still pass with Dunker in those spots. Deception is part of the game and part of play-calling.Now, given those situations and probabilities, who do you want blocking at guard? Dunker or Anderson? This is situational football. I’ll go with the man most capable of opening holes and pushing his man back. Dunker, our Red Rhino.

Scouts Eye today was talking about how cutting Roberts might be about NFL CBA stuff.

One thing I always seem to forget is that vested vets (with 1 year contracts?) who are on the roster in week 1 have their contracts guaranteed.

But if you sign them in week 2, the contracts are not guaranteed.

He was arguing that it's likely that when he was cut, he was told that there's a strong likelihood that we'll sign him back after Atlanta.

After hearing this, I feel like I remember that it's happened before but I can't remember who.

I would not be surprised if this was the case.

The Steelers did Elandon Roberts dirty sign him to play two preseason games then cut him, people are saying that they just used Roberts to play a bunch of snaps because they didn't want to play Harrison in preseason.

It's a business. He could have signed elsewhere but was he offered? Nope. He played in two preseason games and made a couple hundred-thousand.

He's still on the couch. It's plausible a wink and a nod deal was made. We'll see.

That seems like a long convoluted reason for doing something. Not saying it's wrong necessarily but just that it seems like a stupid way to get from A to D. If they were already leaning towards cutting Harrison and he was failing to standout to the new staff then just cut him. There is no need to sign a player to play the position just so you dont have to play a guy you aren't keeping. It just sounds more complicated than is necessary.

But they could've signed any young player to do that Roberts showed he could still play.

They needed a body to play some snaps Payton was injured for the last two preseason games IIRC, the local media was confused as to why you bring in a vet like Roberts then just cut him.

See that's straightforward. Wilson was banged up they need a smart savy vet to take those snaps he wasn't getting. Not sure why that reasoning needs to involve Harrison. I thought they should have kept Roberts as well and I'd have been fine with cutting Harrison a month ago. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. If it is all about that vested vet language of the CBA that's still kinda of wishy washy.

Roberts made it all the way through free agency and then until 2 weeks left in preseason before getting a call.

I wonder if he is suffering concussion symptoms. Steelers called him, he passed a physical but symptoms came back and had to cut him. I think Al Toon of the Jets has permanent concussion symptoms. Maybe something like that is going on with Roberts.

I read somewhere that Roberts had a run in with McCarthy in the last week. Would explain why he was one of the first to go.
