And who could forget my old congressman, Jim Traficant, QB from Pitt.

He had bigger hands than Pickett.

Maybe they're not aware that you have to have an elite quarterback to win? I mean it's only been that way for like a hundred years.

@mytake@mytake if he’s bored could turn this into another countdown of previous players who have been cut

    100 hours until cutdown day..,

Will Howard now bring examined for a concussion following the game according to Charlie Batch. Him going on IR makes cut down day a lot easier now.

How long is the concussion protocol

He could be off if it before opening day

IR would just kick the inevitable can down the street a bit

I imagine there will be a shoulder injury attached to it. Which might not be far fetched, he took a good pop on one of those last sacks.

    Isn't it as simple as

"Hey Will, you got hurt on the last play, go to the tent"
    "I'm fine coach"
"No you're not, go to the tent"

Are we not in the same boat as #1 and #3?

They are kinda opposites. I'd say we're closer to #1. We have a quality starter, but a lot of unproven talent behind him. Ruldolph is there, but he's not really an inspiring option.

#3 is weird. Like we want a really good #3 because we have a really good #2... that one makes no sense. There's only two types of teams that would want to trade for a back up QB... Teams that have poor back ups and teams that suffer injuries.

    Not quite.
If our qb1 goes down, we are pretty much done.

There are teams in a situation where if their qb1 goes down a good backup could save the season for them

Howard not looking that good in the preseason means a risk averse team like the Steelers are keeping Mason.

I think Allar looking as good or better than Howard (IMO) means that I'm fine with trying to get Howard to the PS. The coaches obviously see more than us and are better at evaluating players, but I'd rather pour all of our efforts into developing Allar than trying to split development opportunities between the two of them.

Especially since pretty much anyone from the NFL I've ever heard talk about this says there's no work for a 4th QB...and for a while a good portion of the league didn't even have a QB3 (although I think the extra roster flexibility they added for QBs recently made it so probably most teams have one).

First, you say we are done if our QB1 goes down but then you say trade our back up to help save another team's season.

Thats because most coaches dont attack developing QBs like McCarthy does. He addressed that, he said there arent enough reps to go around but he said there are no time constraints like there are in camp, he can work with them before and after practice.

Yep, we need to know what we have with the young guys. This season is like betting on the hard 8 in craps.

Obviously he knows more than me. I just feel like it would be better for him to put all his effort into Allar if they think Allar is already better than Howard (maybe they don't?)

Agreed, he knows way more about coaching, and developing Qbs than me for freaking sure, but these are the Qbs he has actually drafted, or was in on drafting, and developing.

I don't remember any of them becoming great, or even good as a starter.

Allar vs Howard is going to be a constant until next season. For the team to pour more resources, time and effort to the likes of Allar without seeing how much more Howard is would be damning. Howard is essentially a rookie for his NFL Experience is the same as Drew's; zero.

2027 will give the Steelers their final answer but the conclusion of 2026 will answer another immediate question; do the Steelers need to draft a QB again in 2027?! As of the time of this post, who knows?! Far too many unanswered questions from both and far too many assumptions as it stands.
