I actually despise the New England like cheating that every team dabbles in.I have no ill will toward Howard. I am an OSU fan. There are only so many football players and coaches, and I do not want an extra player --a fourth quarterback taking mind share and reps away from Allar, who is the better NFL prospect.

Sorry, I am going to pass on this one. :) I have been saying Will Howard is going to the practice squad all along.

I am still riding my JPJ is Faking an Injury, so he can be on the PUP list, not pay any fines for being a holdout and not be available to the media because of his injury.

This would be more true if they played with the same WRs. Or if we played Allar first in the 3rd game so we got to see them with the same spread of guys.

I don't think Allar played with Bernard or Wilson at all.

Doesn't mean all the drops / incompletes are on the WRs though. He threw one too low yesterday that would have been a completion with a better pass. Maybe a better receiver catches it, but the throw wasn't "on target" (but maybe have been "catchable"). Could probably have converted the 2 pt try with a better pass too.

Allar looked better than I expected. But (like all rookies, particularly QBs), still work to do.

It's hard becuase they didn't play with the same quality of team mates or quality of competition, but I'd put them about even right now. My guess is that Howard would make it to the PS. And if he did get there, I think we can "protect" our rights to him because I think teams have the choice to move a guy to their own 53 if another team tries to poach them.

I mean after Rodgers signed, Mason was always Will Howard insurance. Allar and Rodgers were never getting cut. It was basically... if Howard works out and shows he can play, great, go ahead and move Mason. Otherwise, keep Mason and wish Howard the best if he doesn't make it to the practice squad.

For those thinking about the idea of Howard starting on IR, I believe that to do that he first has to be placed on the 53. Then move to IR from the roster.

But maybe that's only if you want to preserve their ability to return?

Surely the team wouldn't argue that him having a concussion (without a serious concussion history or very serious symptoms) would legitimately keep him out all year...right?

They said this on the terrible podcast and I agree...concussions probably have an extra level of scruitiny, so there are probably better options if they were trying to sneak someone on to IR (again I think have to be on the 53 first). My guess is that if you wanted to "fake" and injury to get someone on IR, you'd go with something like back (looking at you Joey).

I was thinking more along the lines of a repeat of last year.

The talent they had Allar out there was just stupid. The Steelers are already sitting WR 1, 2, and 3 for the entire game, by the time they made it to the 2nd half there were no receivers on the field that could catch a ball to save their life. The 2nd game I think I counted 4 drops on one drive for Allar's receivers.

I really was hoping Allar would get the start in Week 3 to give him a chance to play with a couple of WRs that might actually make the practice squad. :)

I mean Mason isn't taking this team far in the playoffs if they get in, But he's the one I expect they think "can" get them some wins in-season so that they can get to the play-offs with AR coming back. Any big injury to AR late is a death Kell.

He's routinely out there with Wetjen, who looks like he's actually got something in a small slot like Edelman. I really think the one that showed he belongs is Heidenreich. They talking about a practice squad slot, but he really showed he better than a lot of the mid round talent on the field with him.

Howard throws too many picks. He is a clipboard QB.

Virtually every one of his picks has been said to be the result of the wrong route by the receiver. It's hard to watch the things that lead to a completion instead of watching just the result.

Too early to tell much about Howard or Allar. That roster spot is virtually meaningless at this time of year. Keep giving both of the young guys opportunities as they present themselves until someone makes the decision clear.

Many people on this message board, including the coach himself, have been suggesting the likelihood they keep all 4 quarterbacks for quite some time.

It won't surprise me if MR get's traded by week four. And then, it's just a matter of luck whether AR stays up and we make the playoffs or he goes down and we get to see what the young guys do it real football ...... so it's a bit of a win-win because it's imperative that we know what we have by season end.

Unfortunately neither of the young guys supplanted Mason as the #2. All of Mason's game experience with the Steelers came because of injury to the starter. He was never the designated starter in Pittsburgh. He was the #3 his rookie season and earned the #2 his second year.

If the Steelers follow that same path with these guys, they won't see any real game action unless there's an injury to the first two QBs. In a perfect world, Allar would have earned the #2 this season, learned behind Rodgers for a year and then started next season after considerable playing time in the preseason. That's not how things have gone to this point.

Then there's the issue of whether to draft another QB next year. There's a lot up in the air with that position for sure.
