How can the O Line be such a mess?

I still think this line is missing elite guard play.

Steelers need a Faneca/DeCastro.

I’m not really worried about the whomever they decide to start as the Tackles. It was one bad game.

 

All we ever hear is they are young need time to jell I call BS get a mean streak
into these guys and play with some pride. This group will drag the Steelers down if they don't improve.

Well hopefully Dunker can become a discount version of them to a degree. He certainly looks the part. I think the bigger issue is Cook and Jones. Neither is viable to play RT in a 11 personnel alignment. Last year we protected Cook and or Jones a lot with the extra Oline,an or having a heavy tight end set with Washington lined up beside them. We can’t leave them one on one on an island they just are inferior talent.

I think they need to ramp up Max as fast as possible and play with the heavy sets to ease him into it and protect him or Cook or Jones until we feel confident Max can hand;e it one on one. That means less 11 personnel which sucks bit you have to protect Rodgers first and foremost.

Me, @jeh1856, @mac daddyo, @KnoxVegasSteel, @pczach, @Steel_Elvis, @Blast Furnace, @S.T.D and @blackandgoldpatrol all already outlined this way, way back following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft. Never mind about having four new starters or even new positional coaches. The entirety of the Offense is brand new. That singular reason, by itself is why not just the Offensive Line but the entire team is going to go through some growing pains.


I myself have predicted that it is going to be a while yet (again) for the entire Offense to gel; the entire team doubly so and no less. Don't expect this Offensive Line to showcase many forms of true progression until mid October at the earliest. This isn't going to be a single preseason fix.


In short?! The Pittsburgh Steelers are in transition. Going to be some time for actual results to bear fruit.

Max I and Dunker are the not-so-distant future of our offensive line. Mike M is an offensive-minded guy, and I think ’Muth is a great fit for his scheme. His role in the passing game is going to grow. Washington just isn’t the same kind of fit. I agree that the 2-TE set is harder to rush. On 3rd-and-5 to 10 yards the 3 WR / 2 TE should be our go-to formula as it give us an extra blocker ( Washington ) and 4 guys that are good at getting open.

 

What??? Cook looked so bad on that 1st series they tried to replace him with Broderick Jones on the 2nd series, and Jones looked even worse that Cook.


It is funny, the few praises for Cook that were coming out of training camp reports were when Cook was playing LT.

None the less the bitiching shall continue to debate itself due to the hypocrisy it both presents and repeats upon itself.

 

I think this line has the makings of a decent starting 5. It won't be an elite line, but as long as they don't need to dip too heavily into the depth they'll be ok.

Also I think the coaching was upgraded for the unit. So that may not be felt immediately, but I expect the unit to trend well.

This scheme is really QB dependent. If the QB1 is making fast decisions and moving the ball, it can make a line look better than they are too. So I'm not too worried about it. I think this offense will improve week to week and end up being very efficient and effective. It will be defense and QB1 health that determine our season.

 

3WR 2TE set isn’t practical. You have no rb in that alignment. Your offense is completely predictable in that alignment. No rb for blitz pickup or as an outlet pass or for play action. If your going to have a 2 TE set your going to more than likely take a wr off the field.

I say put down an orange traffic cone instead of Broderick Jones so the defender has to at least go around the cone.

 

On 3rd and 5-10 yards to go, there are few running calls. Don't take my word for it, you can look it up. Okay -- I did. Teams pass 90-95% in these situations. I value a good blocker. A tight end who can catch, block, and create misstates. Rodgers is old, and OT play has been spotty. As I said before the 2 TE set is tough to rush.


Right now we get little from our WR#4.

 

I've been complaining about the OL since the loss to the Browns in the 2020 playoff game. My complaints have fallen on deaf ears, year after year.

 

On 3rd down I whole heartedly agree. But wouldn’t it be nice to use these sets on 1st and 2nd as well with only 2 wr’s for play action and the element of surprise to create short yardage situations and stay ahead of the sticks? I just don’t see a lot of 11 personnel in this offense right now with how bad the oline is and old our qb is.

 

I think there may be a possibility that DK and Pittman both play in the 3rd week, as both are now off the PUP list and practicing.

Right now the Steelers who should be your #3 and #4 are having to play your #1 and #2. Last week Bernard just disappeared against the Jets top CBs. ( 0 catches on 1 target. )

 

Because the OL is shaky and the QB old we would benefit by the formation ( 3 wr 2 te ) because it offers extra TE and he is a whale of a blocker. Helping out of OL on 3rd down and 5-10 yards to go.

Mixing in on down 1 and 2 with the 3 wr , 1 te , 1 back will work and give us the ability to call play action and running plays. The 4 or more wr set is for 3rd an 11+ yards in my opinion.

The key is we have the right talent to run the 3wr 2 the set. 4 guys who can get open and one who is an outstanding blocker. Two very big receivers, one of which is game breaker. perhaps two ( Wilson ) . Do you trust out OL to give 3 seconds on 3rd down? I think they need that extra blocker.

 

You’re missing my point. We can not block correctly either in pass protection or run blocking without an extra olineman or Darnell Washington in there to block. If you add the third wr you have to take the TE out which significantly reduces our ability to block. Cook, Anderson are not very good and they offer zero push. They need protected. It’s a major issue. There is a reason why we have continued to draft olineman high the last four years.
