What you should wonder is how many of those teams didn't have a franchise Qb. Answer they all did. Tomlin did it with Pickett, Mason, Trubisky, Old Wilson, Fields, and old Rodgers. All of who had losing records, or were benched before they came here, and then losing records, and , or benched after they left. Actually think about that for a minute. Yeah only a terrible HC could do that. LoL

Again for the people that can't add, subtract, or read we were in the AFC Championship in the year 2017. We must be the 1st team in the history of the NFL to just jump into a AFC Championship without winning a playoff game if people are to believe the lies you just wrote

And you didn't watch the Steelers in Cowher's early years a whole lot of Marty ball.

Boring, possible but at least they were still above average in the first 6 seasons and they had a identity and they were physical, much better offense that the dink and dunk offense

You live too much in the past...I had no problem with the first 4 years of Tomlin with the Cowher culture, staff and players....It was great...But after that, they were the worst playoffs team in the last 15 seasons and this is a fact

He had 12 players out of a 53 man roster in the 1st SB, and two of those didn't even start for Cowher, and even less by the 2nd SB.
Do You know how many teams have made the SB, and kept even more players than that, and never made the SB again??
I person with a brain that they actually used to think would think....hmmm:hmm:.
...if it was that easy then every team that made a SB would turn around, and make it right back to the SB over, and over. Sorry though, I forgot you don't think, you have to read someone's else's thoughts to tell you what to think, but I get it because you actually don't know what you are looking at.

The truth could actually be somewhere in the middle. I believe Tomlin was a good but not great coach. There were a lot of qualities in Tomlins I liked. He was a players coach, he motivated guys, early in his career he was humble and willing to let assistant coaches cook. On the flip side somewhere along the way he developed an ego. The defense was his baby and in many ways to the teams detriment. It grew stale and he was resistant to change or adding quality assistants to challenge him. Offensively he was inept and in particular he lacked in developing QB talent or finding it. The environment just wasn’t conducive for offensive success.

yeah I know your excuse will be but he didn’t have talent at QB. My argument is we missed out on a couple SB’s in the Killer B era. You give that team to Bellicheck and they definitely would have had more success. The defense often held us back then and yes they were aging but Tomlin is supposed to be the defensive guru.

ultimately I think Tomlins biggest downfall was the lack of a coaching tree. It appears he was less about a system and structure and more about relationships and player loyalty building. If he only would have been willing to get really good assistants in here and let them do their thing and he could focus on the team building and motivating the players it would have been the perfect situation.

I think Tomlins would be a phenomenal college coach at an Alabama. He would be a phenomenal recruiter and managing young men and preparing them for life would be right up his ally. The other thing I had an issue with is his conservative style of play on offense to the extent it really limited production and to an extent we literally played in our fears which goes against st what Tomlin would preach. The defense also became very conservative and loved by the bend but don’t break scenario and hope we get a turnover.

I already seen what Belichick was before, and after Brady, as a Browns coach, as a Pats coach, and as a college HC.
As a NFL HC without Brady 83 wins, and 104 loses.
As a college HC without Brady. 4-8.
Brady was a huge reason to his success. History has proven it.

‘First of all that was a different era back then. Secondly it was a Earnhardt offense. Which won a Sb by the way with the New York Giants. That was a great system at the time. We didn’t have a franchise QB back then so it was about ground and pound, ball control, clock management and limit turnovers and all of that is only possible with a dominant defense which we had.

Tomlin to an extent tried to mimic that recently and it’s just not possible to do that in today’s nfl with the way games are officiated and how the game is. It’s a different game. You can’t and never will have defenses that dominant again. Defenses can’t hit the qb and Harris them today like they did back then. DB’s can’t provide the blanket coverage today like they did back then without having multiple PI’s thrown during a game.

The league has catered towards player safety and more scoring so that obviously benefits the offenses more. So as a result you have to invest in the offense more in today’s nfl in personnel and in coaches. Tomlin was unwilling to do that. He was a dinosaur in today’s game. I still think there is a place for that physical smash mouth run game in today’s nfl but it’s very difficult to build because you just can’t find those guys coming out of college. Most of the oline candidates are pass block eccentric because that is what the game has developed into.

Boring is boring, then tell Steelersfan43 it wasn't Tomlin's offense if it wasn't Cowher's offense back then.

he had Cowhers assistants which was huge and the players he had from Cowher were pretty significant players. I get you try to paint yourself as being practical but your unapologetic defense of Tomlin is anything but practical. Are you willing to admit that the Steelers needed to change and that Tomlin had his deficiencies?

He had 4 coaches of Cowhers that has nothing to do with anything. You do know we still have coaches of Tomlins still on this staff.
Anyone thinking instead of feeling knows you can't even field a team of starters with 12 guys. You can't even play a game with 12 guys.
We watch team after team go to a SB, and never get back, with the same team, but You are trying to tell me that 12 guys, and only 10 of them starters is why we made another SB, and then the next SB with even less than that.
    LoL.
I thought you actually knew football. LoL

It matters who the 12 guys were. You casually gloss 0ver that. It also matters who those four coaches were. You can’t possibly deny Cowher at minumum had a major influence over Tomlins SB teams. DIck Lebeau was a huge influence on those teams. Ben was a huge influence on those teams. Polamalu and Harrison were huge influences on those teams. But I guess Tomlin was Superman and he did it all by himself in your mind. Like I said he was a good coach wh0 grew stale here and it was time for a change. Something tells me you’re secretly rooting against the current coaching staff just so you can be proved right and say I told you so.

as I said before I think Tomlin was a good coach but his style was more conducive to yesterdays NFL not today’s NFL. The last five years have kind of shown us that. It was time for a change. I think Tomlin can still be really good but he has to be willing change and get top notch offensive minded as it’s ts in place to coach up that side of the ball. I don’t know if he is willing to change or if he even sees that.

Harrison the guy Cowher cut 3-4 times and wasn't even a starter, Polamalu and Harrison both won DPOY under Tomlin.

    LoL you tell yourself that.
Again so 12 guys matter, but whole teams that make the SB , and can't ever get back don't matter??
Think, don't feel, Think about that.
If you actually have watched football for any length of time You have seen more teams than I can count off the top of my head make the SB, and never get back, but somehow 12 guys, actually only 10 starters was the reason we made it back, and even less than that to make it back two more years later. LOL. Yeah , I guess if you tell yourself that over, and over you might convince yourself, but not me.
    LoL
