The path for this to happen would be an early season-ending injury to Rodgers IMO.

Especially if we trade Mason away (which is what I would rather do, but I don't think we will).

I tend to agree with this. Not a fan of him. I doubt that a decade from now they will be happy they took him that high. Probably will wish they had taken one of the other position types who ends up being a pro bowl level player.

May be a homer here but I prefer what the Steelers did. They went and got themselves a big QB who fits their division, and sure he was a project, but he's going to sit and learn and then maybe they hit it out of the park. Reaching up high for some dude who was a long term backup at Bama, who is small of frame, that would have irritated me.

Simpson looked great but playing QB in the NFL is not a sprint. It's a marathon where people come out of nowhere to knock you out of commission.

Add to that Kaboly is one of the worst 'insiders' of all insiders reporting on the Steelers.

Hand picked by McCarthy. Will be the starter next season.

Didn’t white Mike go 3-14 his first year in Dallas? Did Dak get injured that year?

Not sure why you want to keep starting fights with the race stuff...but I'm not that surprised either.

Plus "Big Mike" or even "Fat Mike" are just a better names for him anyway. ;)

You're right that MM didn't do well in his first year in Dallas. But you pretty clearly just made up a bad sounding record here.

It's not hard to check these things. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/McCaMi0.htm

They weren't playing 17 game seasons in 2020. They went 6-10. Not sure where the 3-14 came from.

Prescott only played 5 games that year. His record was 2-3.

But I have no idea what their roster was like at that point.

    Assuming all goes well?! Maybe.

Way too much unknowns even at present and way too many assumptions about the far future to make such a determination. I myself would like Allar to be the future for it prevents Pittsburgh on spending high capital on an NFL Draft pick. That said, have to let things play out.

I can say this; so far so good.

Hand picked... until he hands picks a QB in Rd1 next draft. That's how these things go.

In the Pittsburgh Steelers' 28-9 preseason opening win over the Green Bay Packers on August 13, 2026, rookie quarterback Drew Allar led the quarterback room with an 80.5 overall PFF grade, finishing 10-of-13 for 153 yards and three total touchdowns. [1, 2]

Steelers Quarterback PFF Grades vs. Packers
    • Drew Allar: 80.5 overall grade (10/13, 153 passing yards, 3 total TDs, 139.7 passer rating)
    • Mason Rudolph: 87.3 passing / high-tier offensive grade (led team QBs in passing grade specifics, though noted for taking pressure)
    • Will Howard: 86.5 overall grade [1, 2, 3, 4]

Would you like the PFF breakdowns for the Steelers' skill position players or upcoming preseason opponent details

Did he have bad mechanics in those games?
How is a QB with bad receivers and bad mechanics supposed to excel over top teams?
Is it so much about "chocking" against good teams versus only being able to beat bad teams DESPITE poor technique based on raw talent?

I said this when we drafted him, I watched Josh Allen in college. Live in Boise, and saw the Broncos destroy Allen in person. Dude was absolutely terrible. He was FAR LESS accurate than Allar, AND an interception machine on a level that Allar has never been. I thought it was a joke that people projected him as an NFL QB. But they said he had the tools but needed to be coached up. I was wrong.

The parallels here are insane. All the way down to the much more polished Boise St QB Brett Rypien (our Will Howard) being the better college QB in the conference, a clutch winner, who wound up a career backup.

I personally was not excited about the MM hire. Wanted a young guy. But with him as a QB guru along with Arch, watching them break Allar down and build him up, drafting a guy with "tools" but terrible technique is EXACTLY how you can steal a franchise QB without a high pick IF you are a QB guru.

I loved Tomlin and defended him plenty on other forums as I felt his teams over achieved. But this possible outcome with Allar was not something he would be able to pull off.

Very excited about what MM might be building here.

This PFF is the worst of the worst
Seems like they make up statistical categories
    To fit their narratives
    Look at box score
    Numbers don’t lie
    They make it so difficult

Always worth remembering what Colbert said about Mason

Twisting himself in knots trying to imply that he was good enough to be a first rounder without saying that he thought so.

And it worked. Because people still think he said that we had a first round grade on Mason. Which is what he was very careful not to say.

And I guess he was sort of right here.

Mason was good enough to eventually be a starter in the NFL in 2024 (his 5th year)...for 5 games. With a team that was angling for a high draft pick.

I think it's not terrible for what it is (trying to grade how consistent someone is)...at least for positions where they have a good chance of guessing what a players role was (particularly bad for OL and DBs IMO).

Too many people think it's a score that's trying to say how good a player is. Probably because that's how they sell it. But it absolutely isn't that. Particularly for players at positions where having an impact play or two is way can be way more important than consistency.

I know I don't have to remind you about the idiocy of the Minkah rankings.

Assuming Drew Allar crashes and burns during his developmental period in his rookie season, this is what I would agree with. I would also agree on the premise that if Mike McCarthy finds another AFC North QB that can both survive this division and fit hand in glove with his system, that QB will be selected. However, as I said before and will again, way too many assumptions.

Doubly so for the 2027 QB Class. For me, Julian Sayin, CJ Carr and Dante Moore. This is, more or less, the Round One options worthy of such a selection at present. Others may rise the boards but the 2026 NCAA FBS I Season needs to play out first.

If he follows in the Mannings footsteps that came before him, he wont declare next draft. 2028 will be his draft.
