Drew Allar was in complete control.

Allar will be QB3 this season, no need to play him this season sit and learn.

Yes Allar has always been safe with the ball. Starting to think the extent of coaching he got at Penn St was browbeating to not take risks in fact. They definitely didn't push him on his mechanics.

In the draft I put the blame on the mechanics on the player. Which I think is important. But clearly when you see the difference in his mechanics after a short time under McCarthy, it makes you wonder what the hell his staff in college was doing with him.

 

Alright folks. We’ve seen a slight glimpse. Great. Now, the Steelers need to make sure he doesn’t see the field this year unless it’s to kneel or cover Rodgers in a blow out. He needs to learn as much from Rodgers and McCarthy system without distraction.

let the kid learn please. And then let’s see where he is next year when the QB competition is legit for him.

Do not play him under any circumstances this year. Let him learn.

 

As a PSU fan I am skeptical of him. Now it could have been coaching or a lack of wide receiver talent but he seemed to choke in almost every time we needed a big time play from him. Everyone wanting to anoint him as our future might want to look back at his career at PSU. He was 2 - 5 against top 10 teams in college. He folded under pressure. So let's see how he does when it counts. Hoping he can become a great QB. Reality might indicate otherwise

 

This is the part we just aren't going to see until he gets to play in a real NFL game. We can see improved footwork. We can see improved mechanics, but at the risk of stating the obvious, you can't test a guy's ability to handle big moments when the games don't count.

 

And this is exactly why I said Allar impressed me.
I expect to be impressed by Howard, and blah blah by Allar, and it was the exact opposite. I have no trouble saying it looks to be that I was wrong on Allar. I will not move the goal post to try, and be right

I Like the show, and record it to watch at night, but its a KC fan, a Ravens fan, a Patriots fan, and on the overtime its a Bears fan, so its hard to ever hear good things about the Steelers.

Nobody's really right or wrong about anything. I just identified his talent. I know there is a long way to go for him before we know how good he can be.

I only knew what I did about Allar because I follow college football and I am always evaluating players. If you had watched him play more, you most likely would have seen the physical talent that just oozes from him. His arm strength is amazing and the power he creates with such a smooth and effortless movement is just awe-inspiring. It's just that many that don't follow college or recruiting as closely are seeing it for the first time with his improved mechanics with his footwork.

Like I said earlier, his play was terrific, but there are many more tests he needs to pass before we really know everything about him. We already know the physical talent is there. Can he continue to develop and can his mental acuity for processing and recognition match his physical skills? That's the real question. If he shows that he has the mental makeup and can mate that with his physical skills, the kid is going to be a very good player. However, he is still a kid. He just turned 22 years old last month. He's a baby. There is no need to throw him out there or rush the process and crush his spirit. He has a Hall of Fame quarterback to learn from and absorb as much information as possible from. Use that time to develop him and help him understand the game at the highest levels if he is capable of it.

It's going to be fun to watch and I'm hopeful that Allar has that type of ceiling. We'll find out together.

James Franklin was good with recruiting RBs and having a good running game, when it comes to recruiting receivers and the passing game not so much.

They are not going to truly learn much about him in preseason

And if they don't know much about him how do they know what to do in the draft next year

 

For a pretty bad qb draft class, the rookies are tearing up week one of the preseason. Beck had a really good Hall of Fame game (and then didn't play this week), Allar had a great game, Mendoza looked good, and both Simpson and Neussmeier are playing pretty well against each other. Meanwhile, in Cleveland........

Simpson has looked sensational against the Chiefs backups. He's hanging in the pocket and throwing dart after dart. He's something like 18-23 for around 200 yards and 2 TD's so far. Simpson is actually 21-25 for 190 and the 2 TD's.

 

If and only if Rodgers stays healthy and only misses one game like last year.

If Rodgers tears something early and the Steelers need to go in a new direction, I would hope they would look to Drew Allar and not Mason Rudolph for the long term.

I am sure you would have been kicking dirt on Ben because he came from "Miami of Ohio" and had no business playing in the NFL his rookie year.
