The lethal combination of Tomlin and Rooney

All of these clowns wanted Tomlin now that he's gone, they can't stop talking about him .

Tomlin was a good hire in 2007. But unfortunately his coaching style became stagnant and outdated around 2012, when the Super Bowl XL and XLIII roster players started retiring. Coaches like McVay, Shanahan, Sirianni, Johnson, etc... were far more innovative and tuned into modern 2020's era NFL offense. Glad Tomlin is gone... and at least Steelers made a step in the right direction by hiring McCarthy.

 

It might be a little early let's see how McCarthy does first and can he develop a QB.

 

He's already developed a HOF QB... who is currently on Steelers roster. Jordan Love was also picked by McCarthy, IIRC.

 

You are right for Rodgers but Love was drafted in 2020 when it was Lafleur their head coach

 

I meant develop a future franchise QB for the Steelers which is why he got the job here.

 

You're right... for some reason I thought Packers drafted Love earlier than that... seemed like he was on the roster as backup to Rodgers for years.

 

I wish McCarthy the best.... but starting a 42 year old QB is not gonna speed things up in the search for franchise QB, any time soon.

 

But maybe starting a 42 year old Hall of Fame QB will speed things up when our rookies-in-waiting get to watch and study how a HOF QB prepares and operates. A lot of great QBs benefited from learning under a great predecessor. Hopefully the same happens here.

 

The problem is two fold IMHO, guys who deserved better than the BS they were dealt for the last 12 years, will be gone like TJ and Cam. And a lot of other good talent will be gone.

I may be over-simplifying this but "you need an elite QB to be a perennial competitor in the NFL, we let 7 years go by without making an attempt to get the next one"

I stated that, in that very same discussion, that sitting behind Rodgers while keeping Tom Arth would be the dream scenario for Allar. Arth working on his basics and Rodgers teaching him the more finite tricks of the trade. What I didn't account for (no one else) was the acquisition of Mike McCarthy.



Double M still has to prove himself here but so far so good.

 

We've made attempts. They just haven't been good ones so far. It's not easy replacing a Hall of Famer. But we've drafted Mason Rudolph, Kenney Pickett, Will Howard and Drew Allar in attempt to replace Ben. The first 2 clearly didn't work out. Here's hoping one of the last two do.

 

Maybe I should have said legitimate attempts. It's rare that one team knows something that no other teams know. Drafting mid to late is not going to produce a diamond in the rough very often. Package some of our strength/depth and get someone who has a solid chance to be great. Allar might be it due to his injury and horrible coaching at Penn State.

Actually McCarthy has never developed a great Qb he drafted. Never. He already had B. Favre, and Rodgers when he got there, and Dak was already drafted when he got there.
