It is funny, one of the greatest compliments given to Tomlin this offseason, or last, was when one announcer said the Steelers would have a tough time recruiting a high profile QB because the Steelers roster was only a 7 win team's roster.

I thought to myself that this was true for a very long time. Every year since Ben was injured the Steelers had the talent of a 7 win team, and then Tomlin would work his magic and turn those 7 wins into 9 or 10 wins. :)

What is kind of funny is that Tomlin's mediocrity will permeate this organization for a while just like Cowher's over achieving drive lasted long enough for Tomlin to ride it to a SB victory.

The only reason the Steelers current talent pool is rated at 7 games is because the stench of mediocrity still lingers.

If you ask me if Mike Tomlin had been coaching the Chiefs last year, they probably still would have won 9 games. Not completely failed and ended up with a top 10 draft pick.

If Andy was coaching the Steelers and doing the Play Calling, we would have finished with the same regular season record. Andy would have been able to get more out of Rodgers in the playoff game, and the Steelers would have beat the Texans and won their 1st playoff game in a very long time.

Yeah, the Steelers still win the North, and go into the Playoffs and beat the Texans.

Something also tells me Jonnu Smith is not a member of the 2025 team, and the Steelers let their WRs of DK Metcalf and George Pickens carry them to the Super Bowl. :)

Possible but they would not win 3 super bowl with 5 super bowl berth since 2019 too.Reid has always been great with the QBs and Tomlin was happy with a Matt Canada or Arthur Smith caliber OC

I am not sure how good the OC has to be under Reid. According to the "Internet" Reid calls the plays and designs the game plan for every week.

    AI Overview

Yes, Andy Reid calls the offensive plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. While he heavily collaborates with his offensive coordinator—such as when Eric Bieniemy returned to the role—Reid retains ultimate control, sets the game plan, and calls the majority of the plays.

If Andy would have been coaching the team, our defense would have been lightyears better because he would have had a legit DC. Likewise with the OC, so we could have won several more games.

A real coach would have had AB's head when he was streaming from the locker room after a game!

You have 2 more years to wait. This entire year is going to be a comparison of Tomlin to McCarthy. It will get commented on a lot I bet. Then, depending on how the season goes, we will spend another year talking about buyer's remorse or how we hit the lottery that was long overdue........lol

He had a long career and it is easy to find streaks in it that favor whatever point you want to make, good or bad.......He could win playoff games and as you said proved it with a ring. However, the last decade the league has become more of a gunslinger / offense league. Tomlin did not adjust to that IMO.

There has long been a lot of behavior that many have questioned. Tantrums, dancing on logos, rants, poor play........to me, those are all leadership issues. Most here are plenty old enough to have seen good and bad leaders in their life. That stuff does not happen under good leadership except in the rarest of circumstances and then it is quickly handled.

how much of that magic came from TJ’s raw talent? Not to mention timely injuries to Burrow, LJ and other key players on those teams,

also, i wish MT worked some of that magic to get some postseason success out of our projected 12-14 win teams during Ben’s prime era

You have to be willing to bench players, thats what hits home on these guys. Because then they feel the full brunt of letting their teammates down as well. Fines don’t’ accomplish that.

What year are you talking about. Looking at the last 10 years.

The best year for the Steelers in the last decade was 2017 when they finished 13-3 and lost their best player on Defense Ryan Shazier in December. Tomlin to Blame?
2nd was the crazy COVID year where the Steelers started 11-0 and then the NFL made them play 3 games 10 days apart with 2 of those games being on the road. Tomlin to Blame??
Coming in at the 3rd best was 2016 when the Steelers finished 11-5 and lost in the Conference Championship game to New England. After Bell suffered an injury at the start of the game the Steelers had no answer at RB. Tomlin to Blame???

    2016
During the 2016 post season Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell went god-mode breaking the rushing yards in a playoff game record in two consecutive weeks. But in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots Bell immediately pulled his groin and would be taken out for the remainder of the game. Without their Bell-cow the Steelers were devoid of offense.
