He's fast and can get downfield and he has better hands than Mike Wallace. He will play a lot as a rookie probably the 4th receiver and he's insurance if Emmanuel Sanders leaves after the season.

Wheaton excites me. He's going to develop into a legitimate offensive weapon.

He already seems ready for primetime to me. I think him and Jarvis Jones both do. I would really like to see what Moye can do against some more top tier talent but he looked good against the backups for sure.

Wheaton is going to be a play maker from day 1. He has great hands! And Jarvis Jones is also highly impressive, he's around that ball every time.

Hey, let's give some credit where credit is do ... it took Landry Jones's performance last week to finally get Gradkowski to look at Wheaton and Moye this week. LOL :lolol:

I'm not ready to anoint him yet. Great pick, love what he's done so far but lets give him some time before we start saying he is the second coming of a "Lynn Swann.

Why not the 3rd receiver, he looks good but maybe doesn't know all the plays.

i think Wheaton is in the top 3 wr's on the team before the 3rd week of the season. hes too good. hes not as fast as Wallace, but he seems to have better control of his speed. Wallace was a one trick Pony. Wheaton although very early seems to have more skills and can be a complete weapon.

Very early to tell, but I'm pretty excited about what I've seen so far. He could be a really good one.

While I agree that Wheaton loox like a "sure bet", he has done nuthin but good with the chances he`s been given,
I just wanna set the record straight, on that "one trick pony" label attached to Wallace.
I see lots of posters calling him that, but, all it reallly was, was a motivational tool, employed by Tomlin, to get the kid to work on rounding out his game...
When we DID(rarely), give him a chance to catch the ball across the middle of the field, THEN turn the burners on, and accelerate thru the second level of the defense, he was pretty good at that too...
Am I gonna miss him? NO...
I think Miami overpaid, and I have a big problem with his "ego", holding out of camp before we cut him,
I just think in all fairness, he gets a bad rep around here, sonme of it for good reason...
He doesn`t fit in as a "team player" that we like in the Burgh... But to say he isn`t talented, is a stretch...
Yeah, he "lost focus" last season, and I won`t forgive him for that, but I think some posters here, minimize his talents more, based on the fact that he ain`t here no more, than what he brought to the table when he was here.
Again, just wanna say... He was a "one trick pony", more because that`s how we used him, than because of his actual abilites...
For the record, I think he`s gonna be a "bust" in Miami, Too, but that`s because he`s in Miami....(and is an egotistical punk, but he DOES have the physical skills, reminds me of young Randy Moss, Chad Ocho stinko, etc...)
I think he is more than a "one trick pony", if the team decides to use him that way...
Just my opinion, feel free to flame away!!!!
    GO STEELERS!

Not sure I'd say he's the steal of the draft as that kind of implies he fell to us a lot further than he should have, but I will say I am pretty high on this kid. I just don't think he's a true #1 WR though, nor do I really think Antonio Brown is either. I think we need to address that position. We need a Dwayne Bowe type of receiver

Agree with most of above with the exception that Wallace does not have the hands of Randy Moss or Chad Ochoa, nor does he go up and catch the ball like those two. What he has is speed and other than that he is a losy route runner, and below average hands and doesn't high point his catches in traffic.

Heath Evans said that Wheaton was the most impressive rookie in the league during the whole preseason. Willie McGinest said Jarvis Jones tied for number one with 2 other linebackers. I like the sound of that.

Watched some of the SF/Minn game and quite frankly I think he looks better at this stage than most of the ones taken in the first round. Especially this Cordarrelle Patterson. Weathon looks quicker and a lot more polished as a route runner.

My thought after Wallace left was...

    A. Brown, Sanders, Cotchery, Wheaton

    Now....

    A. Brown, Sanders, Wheaton, Cotchery

It puts Cotchery back into the same role he was in last year. Add to that the young kids and this WR core is looking up.

I would say Wallace didn't run crisp routes either and when he would go across the middle it would be on a drag route which is a speed route as well. Wallace didn't catch the ball with his hands out in front of him either.

I'm sure we've seen the Tim Brown quote before, but I think this really says it all:

MD: What young wide receiver have you seen in the league that maybe hasn’t burst onto the scene that we should keep an eye out for?
TB: “If you had asked me that about 4-5 weeks ago I would’ve told you [Philadelphia Eagles WR] Jeremy Maclin. He is a guy that I was very high on and love watching him play, love watching his game. At this particular point I don’t know who that guy would be. It seems like all the middle-aged and older guys are taking over.”

“I’ll tell you a guy who I think is going to be fantastic for the Pittsburgh Steelers: Markus Wheaton. This guy, I believe, is going to really, really light it up. I think he is going to be able to replace [Mike Wallace]. I’ve read some articles already where the Pittsburgh media is raving about his training camp and everything that he has done so far. Keep your eye on this kid. I worked out with him back in February or March and it is just incredible to see this kid run routes, catch balls and do the things that he is capable of doing. And what I like about him is that when you look at his numbers from Oregon State he was a guy that caught 92 balls for about 1,300 yards. He wasn’t one of these guys catching 50 balls for 1,000 yards, but when you catch 90 balls for 1,300 you’re putting in work.”
