Uh… yes. Do you know that the NFL does not have a rule preventing the Steelers from trading up? Do you know that our current GM has already traded up in the 1st round once, and just traded up in the second round a few weeks ago?

The steelers need a rebuilding since Ben is gone. The steelers have been about at the same level every years in the last 5 years record wise.Sometimes you have to take a step back to be better after that

I just can't believe they didn't trade up in the first round of the last draft to get the player they wanted, even with 12 draft picks.

Well considering the WR additions the team has made this is pretty irrelevant

Not intentionally losing... WINNING or losing with a first year QB to see how good he is. It's a win/win... because even if there's a losing season, we get a top 10 draft pick. If Howard or Allar perform well enough to achieve franchise QB status, like Ben did in '04.... that's obviously a win, too.

My other problem is that the Steelers hold onto their players for too long.

Imagine if they had traded Watt when his value was at its peak, similar to what the Seahawks did with Russell Wilson in 2022... The Steelers would be in a better position now.

After Tomlin stepped down, I was hoping they'd complete a retooling of some sorts. I think the roster is way too good for a full rebuild. Unfortunately, the moves we have made thus far suggest the ownership still thinks they are a few moves away from true contenders.

Ultimately, the stars on this roster are so old that something has got to give one of these years. I'm just hoping we don't let young guys like Herbig walk who fit our actual timeline in the future

The reason Joe Greene and Terry Bradshaw were drafted by the Steelers was because the Steelers had been awful in the late 1960s with a 3-24-1 record in 1968 and 1969... All the Steelers needed after that was a great coach, front office, etc., but there's no way the Steelers would have dominated the 1970s without Bradshaw and Greene.

And add Coaching changes and schemes .. Not just the added talent ,but what a lot of them do well..Can play multiple spots and can do a lot of damage in open space...Steelers averaged 6.5 YAC yards after the catch last year which was the highest of AR'S career with a Coach that stated multiple times he doesn't like to throw in the middle ..Again another great play against Cover 2 is a slant and the WR splitting the 2 Safeties and taking it the house ..Open Field runners that can run after the catch..The Team has loaded AR with these guys ...

Ok, stay with me on this one; Historically, the chances of drafting a franchise QB in the 1st round is darn near 50/50. A coin flip. If each draft you pick a QB in round 1 is a coin flip, then how do you improve your chances to say 80% on that coin flip? You alter the conditions. You put that QB on a strong team, with strong support from coaching, mentoring and learning. You study his strengths and weaknesses. You strengthen weaknesses and design an offense around the strengths (before your opponent learns). In essence, you weight the coin to land on 'heads'.

Sure, you could go the brute force method and draft a 1st round QB every year for the next five years. The odds of landing at least one heads in those flips is 95+%. But that's a terrible use of draft capital and likely the rest of the team suffers around the QB. AND, this assumes every draft class has equal talent in it, which we found out by experience isn't true.

....stats class is over....tell me I'm wrong... .:icon e smile:

    You’re wrong :smiley1:

But the 50 50 is pretty well based on teams doing what you are suggesting as best they can

And your 50% is very generous

Off the internet from some guy named Joe:

By my count, of the 37 QBs taken in Round 1 since 2011, only 8 have been what you can call a success for the team that drafted them.

Does this imply QBs are less talented lately or are teams just not well equipped to put them in good situations?

The guy they really wanted was about to fall to them if not for a last minute trade.
