Neither of us has any idea what Tomlin's coaching is like in practices. Because they are closed to the public.

Based on what we know from his players and what we see at places like the senior bowl, it sounds like he is has way more interactions with players than most NFL head coaches. It sounds like most head coaches have virtually no contact with players. They talk to the people below them on the org chart.

I do not think Tomlin is a great coach. I think he's the same as Cowher. A very good coach. But not great. I think there are a very, very small number of great coaches. I'd probably argue that Bill B is the only great coach of this generation. And even then...how much of his success was falling ass backward into the greatest QB of all time?

Tomlin was never the best coach in the league when he was coaching.

He's not deserving of the Hall of Fame. Even though if I had to bet, I would bet that Tomlin gets in. Just like Cowher did. I don't think either should be there though.

If you read the comment I made above, you'd see that I was being critical of Tomlin's ability to game plan and call a defense. So your argument calling him out for being bad at the thing he was actually good at didn't make sense to me. Which is why I said I thought you were being blinded by your reflexive hatred for Tomlin.

I look at what Cowher achieved without a franchise QB for most of his tenure and I absolutely feel he is a great coach. Dude almost won a SB with N.O. and got to several championship games. JMO.

    It's clearly subjective.

I really respect Cowher and what he did for the team. I also agree that being a successful coach is mostly about having a good to great QB. Which is why I think we had so many heart breaking playoff losses under Cowher (and I don't blame him for it). I am glad for him that he got it done in the end. I think he "deserved" to win a SB.

But I think the bar for non-players should be very high. Clearly whoever runs the HoF doesn't feel this way because Joe Buck is in the Hall. Which IMO reduces the value of it to pretty close to zero.

I think the only reasons Cowher got in were because there was a special class and because Jimmy Johnson got in for Fox and CBS wanted to have one of their guys get in too.
