Because we were still making the playoffs, and before someone say something dumb like, we'll half the teams make the playoffs, it's not the same half of the teams.

Im sorry i just see no real achievement in simply making the playoffs and getting blown out every year in the WC round. There is no progress and no hope just Groundhog Day. Let’s just agree to disagree we have talked about this a million times. Maybe Mccarthy can change up the narrative let’s see.

Believe me if we start stringing together a couple, or 3 losing season, and we can't even play in the playoffs, You will notice the difference. Like I said before, a Steeler fan talking about this is like like rich people talking about money doesn't mean anything. Hell a good chunk of this board hasn't even seen a losing season before.

Cowher had losing seasons and several in a row once I believe. I don’t see the difference between that and getting blown out in WC games. Actually I take that back there is a difference…. Ben.

Cowher only had back to back losing seasons 1998, and 1999, and We didn't get Ben out of it. Although everyone I knew at the time wanted him fired after the 2nd one.

As I remember it... more people wanted Kordell Stewart replaced at QB than Cowher fired.

For some reason I thought he had 3 in a row? Maybe it was 3 straight non playoff appearances.

They missed the playoffs in '98 and '99 with losing seasons then went 9-7 but missed the playoffs in '00. Three non-playoff years in a row, but only two losing seasons.

Steelers started 0-3 that year with Kent Graham at QB. Finished the season winning 4 of 5 games with Stewart... only losing to Giants who ended up in the Super Bowl. Steelers were trending upward at the end of 2000... and went 13-3 in 2001. 2001 season was legit wins... unlike the sandbagged wins vs backup QBs accumulated in 2017.

Exactly. You can't make the SB without playoff win(s) . If you don't win any playoff games ever there is not much chance of the team making it to SB.

That 2000 Steeler team rounded into a strong team. Last team to beat the Ravens that year. Too bad they couldn't make the playoffs.

Should we have traded Ben at the same time?

Their results are the same in the first half of this sample.

I think the truth is that for all but the first year of this sample, we were a decent but not great team. And the last 5-6 years we've been a mostly bad team that punched above it's weight class due to an obsessive need (HC and Owner) to maximize success in the next 7 days at the expense of trying to be better in a season or two.
