Overpay? We have 12 picks. They could have traded up if Lemon was that important.

I am not invested in drafting Lemon, felt we could get a receiver on day two, but clearly Khan was interested in him. My criticism is that Khan was clueless and not situationally aware that a team two spots below him that was receiver hungry and one of the best executives in the NFL could move up and trade with a division rival.

The Steelers were clearly were scrambling after Lemon was gone. You saw it on the draft coverage. They couldn't trade down so settled for a RT on their board. It was not a huge reach, but Max wasn't some consensus upper 20 pick and viewed more as in the #27 -#32 range. Maybe it wasn't a reach at all, but in my opinion, they wasted some draft capital that could have been used on day two.

My concern is Khan was not situationally aware, his job is to outthink 31 other GM's, and last night he proved the opposite. He was playing checkers when the game was chess.

I think it depends on where you're picking, where you are in your competitive window, and what position you're looking for.

Jarvis Jones was ready to come in and play on day 1. He was very productive in college and NFL ready.

TJ Watt was a project who many thought was only drafted in the first round because of his last name. He started his college career at TE and only played edge for one full season in college.

Taking the low floor NFL ready guy isn't always the best move.

Not saying that Max will be Watt. But for a team that isn't going to compete for more than a WC spot this year, swinging for the fences on a "high trait" guy at a super-valuable position isn't a terrible decision.

And we've seen from guys like Moore that even OTs that don't really work out all that well have value when they leave. Hopefully we can get something for Broderick if we move on from him (and he can still play in the NFL).

Now the question is will Omar overreact to what happened yesterday to sorta of save face. If one rumor is actually true that someone on Pittsburgh's staff that used to be on dallas's staff foolishly responded to a query from a former colleague on who we were taking and Dallas took advantage then we look really dumb and Khan could give too much away to salvage this. We shall see. Then again it actually hinges on Khan thinking he f'd up, which perhaps he doesn't.

Re: OK to overpay because we have picks. The number of picks we have should be independent of the value of the pick we'd trade up to.

The price of a specific house shouldn't be dependent on your income. It should be dependent on the market value.

If you're willing to overpay for that specific house just because you can...well, that's how bad decisions are made IMO. This would be "poor asset management".

Re: scrambling. Again with the word choice. I don't get it. And your argument for why you think they we're scrambling doesn't make sense.

You are arguing that they we're clearly scrambling because they couldn't trade down?

It's been reported that they could have traded down but they opted against it. I'm personally not a huge fan of that decision because I think I'd almost always try to trade down if I was at 20+. But I'm not a scout either.

    Re: consensus 20 pick.
I wish the mock draft industry spent more time going over how accurate their predictions were and how well they correlated to NFL success. Not that the Steelers have drafted well since the end of the Colbert era. But if we trust Weild (who sets the board), we should have some faith in this pick IMO. He's only one voice, but the guy from Scout's eye (former NFL scout) was talking Max up before the draft. He loves this pick.

My guess is that real NFL teams value OL a lot more than draft gurus and fans. Because the OL isn't glamorous.

My understanding of this class is that there a couple blue chip WRs, then a bunch of guys who are pretty good. Sounds like we will still have a shot at a pretty good guy in the 2nd. And even if we don't, this year we're really looking for a slot guy who can move around a bit and maybe grow into being a WR2.

I have yet to see anyone else say other teams do this. You figure that would be out there already by now. I do have an example of the Steelers doing it twice.

    Nice!

This seems like the best day to go this year since we have so many day 2 picks.

    Have fun.

Nussmeier may be worth a shot in Round 2. Thats the prediction for day 2 (BSPN) Steelers did well the last time they chose a Qb from LSU (in the first 2 rounds anyway)

We don't know either way. I haven't heard or seen anything, but maybe they tried.

I do know for sure Omar Khan was on the phone with Lemon at pick 20, and just assuming Jerry Jones was picking a defensive player.

Everyone knows about the old adage about 'assuming'...and he made an ass of himself on a big stage.

C'mon man. You're killing me. Just because you do excellent draft research, doesn't mean you can brag so much. Well, maybe it does.

The picture was painted on National TV and well documented by the NFL Network. Roseman outwitted and stole the pick Khan was talking with on the phone.

He got played and looked foolish. Those are the facts.

I am moving on to Night Two. Khan can redeem himself. We need a Guard and Receiver.

Local musical talent is now playing.

Problem is the audio is an issue.

Much of the same as it was on Day 1.
