I was happy about the pick but it was bittersweet that González fell to our original draft slot. It really hurts looking at it now.

Sadly, this is what happens when a team has to start drafting for needs. I miss the 90s and 00s when they drafted BPA in 1st round nearly every year.

Sub-par drafting in rounds 1/2/3 the past 7 or 8 years (mostly Colbert's watch) and subpar coaching and stupid mistakes by coaching (moving guys out of position over and over, especially OL) has really put Steelers in a bind.

Looks like we may have to reach for need again in 2026.

I'd rather draft BPA in round 1 and 2, even if we have a glaring need at OT, and draft the OT in round 3/4

Agree 100% on BPA vs Need. 1999 draft was a prime example of taking need over BPA. Steelers took Troy Edwards when Jevon Kearse was still on the board.

Can we just put Troy back over to the LT and Cook to RT?! Draft Vega and used one of the hundreds of guards we have on the current roster at RG?! Whats the issue here?

Jury is still out on Fautanu... but Jones looks to be busting at this point. Not worth the 1st round pick, IMO. Watt was the last really good 1st round pick we've had. The rest have been busts or mediocre.

I assumed the Steelers would take Jones, but I wanted Gonzalez.

Look — How many players there playing with spinal neck fusion? One or zero? My guess is zero.

    Imo, he is done.

I've never heard of one. It would take a miracle for Jones to ever become the player they had hoped he would be. I wonder if he'll even be able to play at all.

All because a player grabbed him by the head and threw him.

That player should’ve been suspended for the Season at least.

If Jones can not earn a living in the NFL, he should take large amounts of cash from the guy who ruined his career.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Left tackle or Left guard was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. I wouldn't complain.

Even though it was a major miss on Jones.

    It starts in the trenches.

    Move Highsmith for a 2nd.

    See below
    Different positions
Do their positions depend on leverage and a strong vertical base?
Yeah but OL is entirely different.

Position means nothing every player is going to have collisions

    But in all reality
Being an OL you will be using that neck way more than a db or a qb, as in putting a strain on it trying to get leverage blocking.
I agree about collisions, but Neck usage a lot different for an OL
    Hope you are doing well

I dont believe the Steelers are going to have to reach for need. Unlike in the years prior, Pittsburgh did not have a contingency plan for specific positions. They do this year; namely in the form of Offensive Tackle though it is a big gamble in Dylan Cook.

Pittsburgh will likely address OT within the first three rounds. That said, this is all assuming that the report by Adam Schefter is indeed correct. Have to wait for more information.

Jones was a bust. He did not adapt well to the NFL! While his 1 year sample and test were good, he was on a stacked colllege team and really was a bit of an unknown.

Following a move to left tackle, 2025 was marked by inconsistent play, including a notably poor performance with multiple penalties. His performance at Right Tackle was sub par too. But he has the rookie excuse then.

It is clear that either Jones did not take to coaching well or he was just a bust. I think his usage was that of a guy who got by on his gifts alone. While that may work in college on a stacked team it won't in the NFL. Jones did not have the feet and struggled to stick with his man! IMO, this was a scouting issue that we failed to properly analyze.

The injury may save Steelers GM's and Tomiln some face.

For those who actually watch the games and don’t let others think for them Jones was actually steadily improving last year until he got hurt

I still do not think he would have gotten the 5th year option but he most definitely would have been the starter

For those of you who do let others think for you I suspect it’s best you continue that way

Still... even if Jones did improve, he was outperformed by a UDFA in Dylan Cook. That's my own original thought, by watching the games. :smiley1:

In his defense that had him switch sides. Basically wasted a year of development and set him back.

Well who’s fault was that? Jones had his chance at right and left tackle, and he was a lowly rated starting tackle. End of.
