That was the difference between Steelers and Patriots. Patriots beat all the bottom feeders except Dolphins... while Steelers during the Tomlin era lost to bottom feeders in 2009 and then it became a yearly tradition starting in 2014 with losses to Bucs, Browns and Jets. This cost Steelers playoff seeding year after year... sometimes costing them playoff berths, examples 2013 & 2018. Patriots took care of business and was usually #1 seed.. 2 games from the Super Bowl, year in and year out.

    That and the rampant cheating.

I also remember some of those losses to bottom feeders where Ben would return from injury and just play bad.

Still, that's not an excuse if a team is serious about contending for a Super Bowl. Brady missed games due to injury and suspension. Patriots didn't miss a beat.. ended up at the very least in a conference championship game.

    Not in 2014

Regarding the Jets' loss, I explained it in another post, but the games against the Bucs and the Browns were also inexcusable. Like against the Bucs, the Steelers showed no urgency when they had the lead on offense, and the perfect example was when they were up 24-20 and called a run on 3rd and 5th when a first down would have been game over. As a result, they lost that game.

And against the Browns, they had like 21 runs on their 26 first plays or something ridiculous like that, and they only started opening up the offense when they were down 21-3, but it was too late.

Also, they wait to play Martavis Bryant that year when their backs were against the wall(after 6 games when they were 3-3 after 6 games), when it was obvious way before that a scrub like Justin Brown wasn't NFL caliber.

I don't remember the exact year but losses to Ryan Mallett -Ravens and the Bengals third string QB on MNF, some games where Ben had a stinker.

On offense they were on paper in 2014 when they had their full lineup....Only injuries or Todd Haley could stop them. But super bowl contender or not,no reason to lose against the 2-14 Bucs who was down 56-0 after 3 quarter in their game before or the 4-12 Jets

You guys act like the Steelers are the only team to lose to bad teams . This happens in the NFL more often than you think Any Given Sunday.

True for the one in 2020 vs bengals but the one in 2015,Ben was not great in that game but Ryan Mallett had also been great especially in the first half and overall the ravens had almost 400 yards on offense. It almost cost the playoffs for the steelers

The stubbornness of putting a poor cornerback like Blake on the field all year long, at least against a superior player like Boykin, unless his back was against the wall, was ridiculous....Johnny Manziel had 370 passing yards against our defense....Yes, the Browns only scored 9 points, but that was because the Browns don't know how to score!

2-14,c'mon and that happened to the Steelers in 2014... The Steelers also lost to the 1-8 Jets several weeks later because of a bad gameplan for the age.... Just look at my post a few days ago about the Jets game... When you put James Harrison as a tight end in a goal-line situation, the coaching staff deserves an F for that game!

And yet you still have to go out of your way to say that it was Roethlisberger's fault for losing games to bad teams.

    Hypocrite much?

The two things Steelers message boards love to do:

Identify the bad loss that altered the entire season somehow

    Complain about LBers on WRs.

Both are discussed as totally unique to the Steelers and ignore the rest of the NFL.

Special bonus points are given if you can tag a game as a “bad loss” to a team that finish with a winning record.

It’s particularly bad with the Steelers, so much that it gets national coverage.

True, but for a team that consistently has a winning record year after year like the Steelers, they lose more than their share of games to teams with losing records. Or at least it seems that way.

It happens almost every year...Sometimes it cost a playoff spot, other time they need some help by other teams in the final week of the season to make the playoffs like in 2023 when the steelers got help from Mike Vrabel and the titans after the steelers lost against two very poor 2-10 teams at home in 5 days:facepalm:

I have NOT verified this data....but it would seem to show that from 2010-2019 that everyone's gut is wrongabout wins versus .500 or worse teams:

    fifth best overall --
    Pittsburgh Steelers 93 68-24-1 .737

I remember seeing a stat 10 years ago when the Steelers were favored by 7 points or more; they were terrible especially on the road... it was either a very ugly win or an ugly loss!

One thing's for sure, it was free money for the bettors!

    Those stats was from 2016

Ok, but how are they against teams with abysmal records in the last 5 years? I would bet for teams with winning records, they're at or near the bottom. I could be wrong though, it won't be the first time.

Are you thinking this direction gets national coverage ;)

Although to some degree it does

Excluding AK and HI I wonder who the most distant members are with and without outside the US

Or because you pay more attention to the Steelers you think it happens to them more often.
