You know I wasn't dissing Ben right? Just suggesting he was EVEN BETTER versus the Jags, yet people act like he was garbage in that game.

That said despite one of the most clutch drives in history highlighting a fine SB performance, they got the MVP right.

When a QB depends on one receiver to get over half your yards and and your only TD to win the game in the final seconds, receiver deserves it.That does not take away from the QB, but 9 catches for 131 and game winning catch is a huge portion when QB had 21 completions for 256 and a single score to that sa me receiver.

Most games where receivers are MVP are great QB performances too. (Ward notwithstanding, who caught a bomb from a receiver on a bad Ben performance to get his).

The mention of other QBs doesn't matter. Usually NOBODY stood out when that happens. If they targeted one receiver for over half the yards and your only touchdown you can bet that doesn't happen either.

To my original point, in the Jax game had the defense simply had an AVERAGE 4th quarter, and that been a SB with Bens performance, IN A SB, dude is not just MVP...it goes down as THE GRETEST QB PERFORMANCE IN FRANCHISE HISTORY.

Terry Bradshaw had two clean SBs, and two turnover laden ones.

MVP in SBs with THREE turnovers each:

    • Super Bowl XIII: Despite having three turnovers (including a lost fumble that was returned by Dallas for a touchdown), Bradshaw won Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 318 yards and 4 touchdowns.
    • Super Bowl XIV: Bradshaw threw 3 interceptions against the Rams but again won Super Bowl MVP for his late-game heroics, including a 73-yard touchdown pass to John Stallworth.
    • Clean Sheets: In his first two Super Bowl appearances (IX and X), he played remarkably clean football with zero turnovers in either game.
Bens Jax game was superior to any TB SB. We just remember the good stuff

Actually if the Falcons just ran the ball every time, punted, and or just took field goal opportunities when presented, they still would have won.

I know. It was beyond stupid the way the coaching staff handled that game. And the Patriots still needed incredible luck to pull it out.

And yet folks hated on our coaches for turtling because they feared comeback losses that never happened during the Ben era. "We almost lost" when time would inevitably run out on the opponent.

Steelers could "turtle" during the Bettis era and get away with it... because:

    A. Steelers had an above average OL
    B. Steelers had a defense that could force 3 and outs on a regular basis

We have none of that right now, at present.

I guarantee if We were up by four TDs with any if the the last 3 HCs we had, we would not have lost. That would have been turtle ball for the rest of the game.

And people would be bitching that the quarterback couldn't convert on drives and almost lost the game. :lolol:

Correct on the defense. .My point is that with that being the case, that criti on cism was meritless when our record with a lead was among.the best using our strategy. Falcons stupidity never hit us in the butt.

Those first two Super Bowls were low scoring and more of a defensive game, Bradshaw could overcome his turnovers but having that Steel Curtain certainly helped.

We were rarely in those situations with Cowher... because the offense couldn't score enough to go up by 4 scores. We were never in those situations with Tomlin because the defense would **** the bed after 2011, so it was impossible to go up 4 scores even with prime Ben scoring 12 TDs in 2 weeks vs Colts and Ravens in 2014.

Agree with a lot of this or think it's not unreasonable.

One thing I'd note is that we weren't all in last year.

I think we were forced into a deal like the DK deal by the cash spending rules the NFL has. And it's really hard to argue that we overpaid for Rodgers. He wasn't great or anything. But he was paid below market value for the results he got.

11 points lead was enough for Cowher too....110-1-1 in his career in this situation!

Not sure how anyone makes a W/L prediction, backed by any sort of reason, when we don't know who the starting QB is.

With Rodgers, I'd predict 10-7 or 11-6 and a competitive wildcard game, assuming he makes it through the season.

With anyone else, I think 10 wins is unlikely unless we manage to get lightning in a bottle with a rookie.

Honestly, I think I'd rather not make the super bowl than to get there and do that. As a fan, I don't think I could take the 2nd half of a game like that. Especially with Brady and Belichick doing it.

How many TDs did Bradshaw throw to the other team?

I don't get how you don't realize the impact of DTDs (it's very, very large). As stated above, you lose 80%+ of games where the other team's defense scores. That's bad.

You may be right that it's possible that we could have won that Jax game if we were playing with a historically good defense with Hall of Famers like Greene, Ham, Lambert, and Blount. But I don't think anyone who knows anything about football would ever compare the defense we put on the field against Jax to the Steel Curtain.
