Remember when Ben was fading and someone posted that we’d find out just how hard it was to find a franchise QB?
Well we might be about to discover how hard it is to replace Mike Tomlin despite all the posts for all these years about how he has to go.

I agree, but I freaking hope not. I don't want to see this team do bad no matter who is the owner, the HC, the GM, or players playing at any position.

I'm sure gonna miss those 9-10 win seasons with a quick playoff exit.

How long until folks turn on MM's non answer answers?

So far couldn't go to Pro Days because he got caught up in other things and he plans on using his winning process to win. He has also taken a lap on a few of the draft prospects.

Sounds like he is working hard.

I find MM’s media sessions refreshing. Tomlin was talking at a function a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t help but think how glad I am I dont have to listen to him and his cliches anymore.

How was anyone not ready for a change after 20 years of listening to that ****.

it is cool if you no longer cared for Tomlin's comments....but how is MM any different? I do not watch much televised NFL coverage, so I am going by the "pull quotes" that appear here and other print outlets or snippets on podcasts. Which means I could be losing a TON of context...but how is "winning process" not just a more traditional coaching cliche?

When asked about pro-days his answer was basically what I tell people when I want to back out of plans so I can drink by myself rather than deal with their nonsense.

There are many positive things that both MM and fans can rest their hat on but lets not pretend he doesn't speak in the vaguest of cliches.

Again....unless there are several interviews out there where he gets into details that have not been as widely shared. Maybe I am being too influenced by hearing him provide non-answer answers for over a decade in Green Bay. But the next time I hear MM say something that specifically answers a question....might be the first time.

Tomlin inherited an 8-8 team and improved them to 10 wins and a WC loss. (Seems to be the bookends of his career here.)
So I'd hope for McCarthy to also show improvement, get them to at least 11 wins and a WC win.

    21-0
Since the Steelers don't play the Bills, Chiefs, or Chargers, the league will give one of those teams the #1 AFC seed, forcing the #2 seeded Steelers to have 3 playoff games before the SB.

He just gave an insightful answer about the QB’s that I enjoyed.

I cant even begin to wrap my head around the fact that you see no difference between Tomlin and anyone for that matter. Im so glad to be on a new cereal.

Was that the one about plying from the pocket? That one was in the neighborhood of an actual answer for sure.

The rest I’ve seen the past two weeks are just from page 17-26 of the coach cliche manual.

No big deal. None of these guys say much of anything.

You're probably buying into all that hype from McCarthy about Will Howard, he likes him so much he's waiting for 42 year old Rodgers .

    Be comfortable with being uncomfortable
    Cut your eyelids off
    Things of that nature
We dont run from adversity, we run towards it
    Nameless grey faces
    Standard is the standard

Those are just off the top of my head. The next time I hear McCarthy speak like that will be the first.

Tomlin mastered the art of saying nothing and dressing it up with colorful phrases. A master politician of coach speak.

He’s a great speaker and wordsmith but after 20 years it was b*tch eating crackers territory.

I’m not trying to talk about Tomlin. I’m asking when MM said anything specific.

I’ve not seen anything. All I’ve seen is vague generalizations and the insight that AFC North QBs have to play well outside and from in the pocket.

If you like MM’s style of saying nothing better, that’s great.

But I’m going to need to see more before I buy that he’s doing something substantially different than non-answer answers.

I acknowledge that I’m biased by not watching NFL tv coverage and a deep weariness of MM from his Green Bay era.

He stated what he liked about him and he stated what he needs to work on..He even said why most College QB'S are not ready becauce they don't learn what they need for the NFL they are more of that system QB ..

Then he states what Will needed to work on the 5 step drop and the 2 minute drill, both of those require Mental toughness and Field General Qualities..He is waiting on AR so Will can have another season learning to be a NFL QB, from a guy who is way above average in both the things the Coach says Will needs..

anyone saying its okay if we have a losing season is being extremely delusional.

Tomlin won 10 games with mediocre QB play and pedestrian offenses. White Mike should win no less than 10 games this year or its a problem.

It's not difficult to replace mediocrity. I do believe McCarthy's first year could be rocky because he will have to break them down somewhat. Tomlin did so much damage.

How did Tomlin going to all those pro days work out for the Steelers in the last half decade of drafting?

    Stay home, watch tape.

When was the last time Tomlin had to play a division leading schedule? And how did he do that season (hint; he didn't win 10 games)?

I didnt see your previous response when I posted this. Yes, the one about Will and what he needs to do better.

It is about Tomlin because you responded to the post I said that I find McCarthys media sessions refreshing. Every coach is going to be cagey at times and give non answers but none did it more than Tomlin and Belichick.

And yes, Tomlins style was grating, that alone makes McCarthy or any HC that would have ended up here refreshing.
