Last preseason I’m not sure Rodgers took a snap in preseason if so not many

I would expect Howard to probably go 50/50 with Rudolph

Now if they draft someone in the first that could change even then I would expect Howard to get a heavy load

If you look at the preseason games in the last 10 years in the NFL,the starters almost don't play and they are very vanilla. This is hard to put huge stock on preseason now

i am not sure howard has "it" but i know rudolph doesn't have "it". if rudolph was capable of being a starting QB he wouldn't have returned to the steelers to be a back-up. i have seen what rudolph can do, and i'm not impressed. that is why i say give howard a shot. he may not be better but i doubt greatly that he would be worse.

as for drafting a QB this year....i'd rather not, but if they do i hope it is in round 3 or beyond. and i would not be adverse to drafting another next year if the QBs this year falter.

i guess you can say i am all for a youth movement in the steelers roster.

Depends what you mean by "it".

If you mean that he can't carry a bad team to victory by himself, then I'll agree with that.

I do believe he can get the players around him to play better, which is a different kind of "it".
In the first 14 games of the 2023 season, the Steelers offense scored less than 20 points in 9 of the games, with their highest score being 26 (against the Browns).
In Rudolph's first 2 games, the offense scored 30+. It wasn't him carrying the team (his stat lines were decent but not great), but the offensive players seemed to respond to whatever it was that he was doing.

you are correct in your statement about rudolph's first 2 games. i don't deny you that. perhaps he felt he had nothing to lose and everything to gain and threw the ball around. or maybe he was just underestimated by the opposition and he had a couple good games?

i do believe tomlin didn't like rudolph and therefore never really gave him a fair shake. because everyone knows tomlin had a stiffy for mobile QBs. but i really don't have faith that he can be consistent enough to run an offense for a full season. he just doesn't seem to have that "it" as in leader quality to me.

The primary dividing line there was the team firing Canada. The offense immediately got better, long before Rudolph stepped in. Trubisky's poor play hampered them in some of those games, and Rudolph was helped by facing a couple of horrid defenses. The Bengals couldn't stop anything and the Seahawks couldn't stop the run. Najee Harris ran for 122 yards in that game and Jaylen Warren added 75. Rudolph didn't even throw a single touchdown pass against Seattle.

    Rudolph has hit his ceiling

    Howard is still unknown

I really don't have a favorite of his. I believe every album of his has at least 3 great songs, and the rest good.

I suspect that would have been much different had Randy Rhoads stayed in the band.

Lead singer Kevin DuBrow was a headcase, goofed off too much, drugs/alcohol, wasn't serious enough... and pissed off bandmates. Saw an 80's rock documentary and there was a segment on QR. Same thing happened to Sebastian Bach/Skid Row. Dude was a crazy, unstable drunk... bandmates had enough of his crap.

Skid Row had a documentary/live music VHS tape back in the early 90's titled... "O Say Can You Scream." It was hilarious... but just by watching their behaviour.... those guys were DOOMED! :lolol: Jeez.

Yup, but Sebastian Bach has kept busy. He played the lead in Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway in the early 2000s. I actually saw that. (I did NOT choose that show.) He did some other acting and recently replaced Dee Snider with Twisted Sister, though I'm not sure what kind of venues they are playing these days.

True. Now consider we have upgraded the coaching, WR and RB. Rudy’s play was impacted adversely last year.

I think Howard has a 33% chance of beating him out.

I hope to use our #1 pick on Simpson.

In games not against the Steelers, Seattle (9-8) gave up 30+ points in 5 out of 16 games. Cincinnati (9-8) gave up 30+ points in 3 out of 15 games. These teams, while not very good, it wasn't like other teams were scoring at will against them.

In the 4 games after Canada was fired, the Steelers scored 16 points against the Bengals, 10 vs Arizona (4-13, 31st in defensive scoring), 18 vs NE (4-13), and 13 vs Indianapolis (9-8, but 28th scoring defense). The Steelers played teams that gave up a lot of points, and still couldn't reach 20 points. The offense may have gotten better but they still were not scoring, and the "horrid defenses" were in these 4 games before Mason played.

I think it has been too long since most of us saw "good" QB play that we seem to have forgotten what it looks like.

    Rudolph
    Pickett
    Skylar
    Fields
    Wilson
    Old Man Rodgers

None of those are good QBs. If it was up to me, I would only Will Howard on the roster right now. Wouldn't even answer Rodgers or Cousins phone calls.

Give me Howard and two from the 2026 class from the 3rd round or later. Making my new fancy offensive staff earn their paychecks.
