Steelers' draft strategy

I think guard is the only position on the team where a rookie could be a day one starter, if they don't take one in round one they should be to get a good one in round 2-3.

 

why so many
JPJ alone should be enough

 

they need a center Ioane is not
Lew injured or Zuhn in 2nd is best for them. I see WR rd1 for Ravens

 

I'm not sure that post even deserved a response. If any team was stupid enough to give the Raiders that much, they might do it, but no way is Mendoza worth that.

 

Why

If the Steelers want a WR or OL it’s not like Baltimore can take all of them

 

In the first round you take the highest impact player

With the possible exception of an outstanding LT, OL are not impact players

 

The Ravens could go for the TE Sadiq from Oregon now that they lost Isaiah Likely.

Vega Ioane may likely require a trade up; something I am not opposed to doing. Talents like him don't come around often. Besides, nabbing him kills two birds with one stone; the running game gets improved and the amount of interior pressure the QB faces decreases.


Very much worth the cost.

 

Mel Kiper has the Steelers drafting Vega Ioane with our 21st pick in the first round.

No need to trade up, Kiper is never wrong.

 

Would be nice to have him. Saw one where we got him at 21 and a few where he was late teens. I'm game for a few spots to move up but not for a ton though, Plenty of areas of need and players worth it at 21 if we miss out.

 

There are 10-12 OL in Daniel Jeremiah's top 50. Most are in the top 30. At least 4-5 will play IOL. There are options at OL this draft.

Vega is starting to get a lot of buzz, he won't be on the board at #21.

 

That's not good. Everything I heard about him was that he was going to run sub 4.5.

He just fell further down the draft board of every team and doesn't fit as a free safety if a team is looking for speed to cover the entire field.

 

That's slow for a DB. You got defensive lineman running sub 4.7 these days.
