I had a couple of friends who played college, and couldn't read beyond a 3rd grade level, but my friend that played in the NFL, he was actually a great reader.

The Dolphins still won the SB in the 73 season.
And went to the SB for the 82 and 84 seasons.

But since Shula went 8 years without a playoff win, I can understand thinking they were worse during that period.

You're right even super prospects like Trevor Lawrence haven't lived up to expectations. Everyone wants the running QB. Instead of Patrick Mahomes you get a Justin Fields.

I do think Caleb Williams is a good one, but it seems there are a lot of misses with high picks.

I don't know about Mack Jones the games I watched him play for the 49's when Brock Purdy was injured for about 5 or 6 games, Jones looked real good, not sure if it was him or how the 49's coaching used him but he looked better than anybody we had and thought he would replace Purdy for good. With the Pats , agree he didn't look as good. Wonder how much a coaches have influence on some QB and what Mike M would do with him.

All I know for a fact is, Mack Jones would do much better in a McCarthy offense... than a Tomlin offense.

I'd rather have this QB room.... Jones, Howard, Rudolph than this QB room..... Rodgers, Howard, Rudolph.

i agree. The TOP TALENT is a very small pool of people. Coaching and scheme REALLY MATTER

it is SAD that we are bring back Rodgers.....42, I think?

can only go so far with him, still AFRAID to rebuild......

It amazes me how foolish this comment is every time some one posts a variation of it just to whine

They have an entire new coaching staff

    They made one trade

    They have 8 FA signings

    They have 12 draft picks

    Define rebuild

Do you want to get rid of good players and sign 32 UDFA

Or is this just part of your normal schtick

I think he means going with a young OC like Kubiak at HC... instead of McCarthy. That would have been a rebuild. Steelers are still in "win now" mode with the McCarthy hire and possibly Rodgers at QB again, for better or for worse.

You know the only likeable part of this to him is the

    FA and UDFA

    maybe the ITTTTDDO also

you cannot rebuild with a plan to bring in 40+ yr old QB's

go back to sleep old man

they ignore THE elephant in the room

everything else is great - SURE.

but 50% of the game starts and ends at the QB position

I grew up in Canada, so I didn't know a ton of NCAA football players.

The only guy I knew played for Michigan when Woodson was there and Brady was the backup QB. He's an MD+PhD (read: smart as ****). That National Championship ring is crazy to see IRL.

But I also knew some guys who played varsity tennis in the NCAA. And they took a class called something like "Athlete Appreciation". Where if you couldn't read the multiple choice question, the TA would come by and read it to you. My understanding was that it was read such that the correct answer was read with emphasis. But this is all hearsay.

"No guy comes out of college the same these days, how they see the field, what you’re going to try to teach them from a standpoint of your progressions, and I just think as a whole, there’s not enough emphasis put on the organization’s role in the development of the position," said O'Connell on The Rich Eisen Show in September of 2024. "Meaning, I do believe this. I believe that organizations fail young quarterbacks before young quarterbacks fail organizations. And that’s not there’s no specific example in my mind that I could give you of a team or a quarterback just overall 30,000 foot view."

Meaning teams don't want (have) the time to spend developing QBs like they did years ago. There is still an adjustment period jumping to the pros no matter how much college ball looks like the NFL. Far more complex defenses, outstanding athletes, analytics to find every flaw a QB might have and exploit them. Add in the 5th year option and teams basically have to either move forward or give up on a QB.

(btw, be interesting to see what O'Connell does with #9 this year. So far it's looking bleak.)

9-8, here we come.......at best again......and AROD limping to the sideline to avoid a passrush.

    REBUILD!

TRADE UP instead of signing ALL OF THESE FA's - save your FA capital , TRADE TJ - and MOVE UP to a top 5 draft PICK......

FIND A DAMN QB for the future - and BUILD!

does that help you - some of you numbskulls, anyhow?

It's a GAMBLE of course......but we will wallow into the future w/o a QB

i am not sure Howard is the guy......the FO and coaches have to figure that out......

But another year with Rodgers is..........BLAH. 7-10 wins, one and done IF they make it to January. He is SLOWER than Jeh1856.......

Hmm. For some reason I would have thought Tennis players would be different, but maybe it's because I never knew a tennis player that played that competitively.

While the idea of Rodgers rather than a QB of the future is aggravating, I will take that versus the tank and hope method.

Rather be the Steelers than the Dolphins (Tank for Tua), Jets (Wilson, Darnold oops), etc.

    Tanking promises nothing.
