What exactly was I wrong about in 2023? I had no problem with them benching Trubisky when they did. I had no problem with them sticking with Rudolph against the Ravens when he had played decently while Pickett had been out for a month and wasn't 100 percent. The same was true the following week.

Your approach is to lose. Rudolph is not a starting-caliber NFL quarterback. He isn't some guy who just needs a chance. He has been in the league since 2018 and nobody wants him as a starter. He is fine as a No. 2, but that's it.

Once again, you substitute a silly picture in place of a valid argument for the sake of trolling.

This is exactly what I wanted them to do the year they drafted Kenny Pickett. Before they drafted Him.

I really don't understand the the thoughts on that.
Nobody got better under the former group, but somehow Pickett, Mason, Old Wilson, Justin Fields, and Old Rodgers looked better, and won more games(for those that played before they got here)than the year before they got here, and won more games than after they left. So how does what You say make sense??

This from a guy who says the Steelers ruined Pickett. Mason was on that same team, and his wins, and stats blow Picketts out of the water. LoL. I think Mason is a backup, and nothing more , but it's funny to hear someone that defends Pickett so hard to put Mason down.

You were horribly wrong that Pickett was a franchise QB and that Rudolph wouldn't do any better than Pickett. Then when he did fine in Cincinnati, you said Cinci was weak, lets see how he does against Seattle. When he won in Seattle which no Steeler QB had done in decades, you repeated the mantra again against Ravens, and you were wrong again. Anyways the point of my argument is that Steelers are not going to be any better off signing Kirk Cousins or Geno Smith, than retaining Mason and Mason comes a lot cheaper. You also get a chance to test out Will Howard, or whoever they draft rather than burying him third on the depth chart as they have last year. If Mason works out great, and if he doesn't like you predict, throw in Will Howard, the new draftee or Skyler Thompson or whoever they have. At least that would have moved the needle in search of the new QB.

were they that good or did our high price defense help them? rodgers was at the jets coming off a tough injury to come back from in one year so yea he looked about the same as before the injury. fields wasn't all that good here. picket wasn't either if he was he would still be here. old wilson did for a short bit and then regressed. not sure how you think they were so much better here.

Pickett has a career won lost record of 16-12, while Rudolph's record is 9-10-1 counting his playoff game. Neither one is something to right home about but Rudolph having 9 career wins going into his 9th season is pretty weak.

However you want to look at it they all won more games here than the year before they came here, or the year after they left. Those are the facts.
Hell people thought Fields had been magically turned around. Multiple people on here were so convinced, they wanted us to keep him, and pay big money for him. Hell they weren't the only ones. Multiple shows on tv, and reporters said how he had been turned around. Yet after he left, he was so bad they now even after all the money they gave him , they have signed Geno Smith. LoL.
    Here maybe this will help.

Fields last 3 years: 5-8, (4-2 with the Steelers), and then 2-7.
Russell Wilson last 3 years: 7-8, (6-5 with the Steelers), and then 0-3.
Aaron Rodgers last 4 years: 8-9 with Green Bay , 6-12 two years with the Jets, 10-6 with the Steelers.
Kenny Pickett: 14-10 With the Steelers. 2-1 since.
Mason Rudolph: 8-5-1 with the Steelers, 1-4 with anyone else.
Now tell me what they all have in common??
They all have been better here, under a coaching staff that You said isn't very good for Qbs.

Tomlin and Smith concocted an offense that got Fields paid just the same as Willis.

Lafluer is a coaching genius apparently and Tomlin and Smith are bumblers.

Lafluer had Willis play similar to how Smith had Fields play. I don’t even like Smith’s offense and I gotta give him that.

So we have Rudolph and Howard

If it’s not AR what other reasonable option is there

Draft is obviously not the short term solution

    Who is left

Zach Wilson! The ultimate QB School development project!

    Here we go!

Yeah....no...there are not good options available. It is AR or Howard. I guess someone could talk themselves into Ty Simpson as a rookie starter.

Unfortunately, I have this really sinking feeling that it is gonna be that kid from LSU whose dad is friends with MM.

    Strongly agree on Mason.

He's probably a good back up. Not a starter (unless you're looking to draft high...or you have Tomlin as a HC and he can get to 8-9 wins with anyone at QB).

I think part of the reason some overvalue Mason is that we had such horrible QB play prior to his 3 game stretch. And just looking at the average of Mason's 3 games there probably isn't fair since one of those games was in a "monsoon" (where he didn't look good). He certainly got a "hot hand" at a good time for a guy who needed a contract in the offseason. But I agree it's silly to expect him to be that going forward.

And while 3 TDs in 3 games is nothing to write home about, compared to Kenny it felt like an abundance of riches:
    • That season, Kenny only threw 6 TDs in 12 starts (but he only had 10 attempts in game 12).
    • In the previous 9 games (again more like 8.5), Kenny had only thrown 2 TDs.
    • He had 220 attempts in those ~8.5 games. That's a TD% of 0.9%. Which is atrocious.
    • Mason had 3 TDs in 74 attempts (4%). My understanding is that this is somewhere around average. But at more than 4x what we had with Kenny under center, it felt like a God send.
    • So it's not random that Kenny didn't get a 4 or 5 year window as a starter. This has now been confirmed by 3 other teams.
But if the other option is Cousins...flip a coin because neither of them are starters (anymore in the case of Cousins). Either should help us get a better draft pick and get Howard to the field to see some game action (sadly, I think Howard would be beating the odds of a 6th round pick to have Mason's career).

In this case, I'd probably take Mason because he's already here. I'd be fine if we got Cousins for cheap too as long as they play Howard once we're out of the playoff hunt. My guess is that we'll be playing meaningless regular season games with either of them. Something we're not used to in these parts.

If there's someone available, I'd rather go for a high pedigree scrap heap guy than the 37 year old Cousins.

Personally, I'd rather do that over Rodgers too.

But that's because I'd prefer we have a down year where we get a better chance to draft a QB. Something Rooney would never green light (on purpose) IMO.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading for Mac Jones either. Wonder if Kahn has that iron in the fire.
