Revisiting Maxx Crosby’s injury before Raiders backed out of trade with Ravens | Sporting News
"Sources clarified that Crosby actually underwent a minor meniscus repair -- not a trim -- on Jan. 7, meaning his recovery will be measured in months, not weeks," Rapoport wrote. "A meniscus trim is often 4-6 weeks of recovery while a repair can be 3-4 months. Crosby's should be shorter."

More: Trey Hendrickson given ultimate lifeline after Ravens back out of Maxx Crosby trade

Easy to see why Crosby failed physical
Based on Rapoport's report, Crosby likely wasn't fully healed from his surgery, and that could have played a big role in his failing his physical.

If his recovery could be three to four months, he is nowhere near healthy enough at the time of writing to pass a physical, but surely the Ravens knew that, right?

Because they are morons who don’t have talent or the study’s behind them to know anything past last week.

UFA his market might be slow because he's 32 and wanting a big contract.

For a trade this big you would think the physical would have been done before the agreement

I believe a lot of what McFadden says in what @Steelersfan43@Steelersfan43 posted above is true

It won't happen, but imagine if the Steelers would sign Maxx and we could watch him tee off against the Rats twice a year

Nope. He is a full fledged Free Agent. Trey can sign anywhere he wants to. Baltimore would be a good landing spot for him but I would imagine other teams would be interested in his abilities.

    Timing.

Medical concerns are fine by their own. The concerns along with the timing of the announcement?! Very unusual; doubly so by Baltimore's standards. That said, perhaps Crosby is more injured than previously thought.

That said, if this were the case, why didn't Baltimore axe this trade sooner?!

Hence why some GMs are pretty pissed off at Eric DeCosta and the Ravens as a whole. Medical concerns are not the problem by itself. The timing of this in particular?!

    Oof.

I mean I certainly would never execute a trade with a team that's pulled this. This is some shifty GMing.

I didn’t know Rob Pelinka was the Ravens GM. When did this happen?

Maybe I am the only one connecting the Dots between the Raiders stealing Center Tyler Linderbaum from the Ravens, and the Ravens getting pissed and cancelling this trade just to get back at the Raiders for taking their Center.

I am assuming the Raiders were planning on using some of the money they were going to save with the Max Crosby deal to pay for Linderbaum's salary. Linderbaum's salary is so far over the market value of a center, the Ravens had to be pissed they couldn't compete with the crazy offer the Raiders gave their Center. (Creed Humphrey was the highest paid Center in the NFL at $18 million per year, Linderbaum's deal is for 3 years at $27 million per year)

    Had to Check
Max Crosby deal to the Ravens occurred on Saturday
Linderbaum was signed by the Raiders on Monday.
Max Crosby Deal was cancelled on Tuesday.

FYI. The Raiders had an offer on the table for 4 years $88 million.
Ravens rumors: Baltimore offered Linderbaum $88 million pre-Raiders move

I guess it's called the legal tampering period for a reason. I just hope this makes it harder for Ravens to deal in the future.

Let me drop a few stats here. These are per snap numbers that I calculated using stats on Pro Football Reference.

    Sacks per snap: 2025 Crosby 0.0107, 2024 Crosby 0.0098, 2024 Watt before injury 0.0147
    TFL: 2025 Crosby 0.03, 2024 Crosby 0.022, 2024 Watt before injury 0.023
    QB hits: 2025 Crosby 0.0214, 2024 Crosby 0.026, 2024 Watt before injury 0.0345
    Forced fumbles: 2025 Crosby 0.0021, 2024 Crosby 0.0, 2024 Watt before injury 0.0077

Unfortunately I don’t have time to do Watt’s 2025 stats, but I’d bet that they are generally better than Crosby’s, especially in the crucial forced fumbles stats where Watt generally leads that league and Crosby has done nearly nothing (zero in 2024 vs. 6 for Watt)

Raiders deal was far better. Not surprised TL jumped on it. In three years he will still be in his prime and can hit bank again!

This is news to me. I have it on great authority from some posters here that TJ Watt is fried, cooked, done, and has been for a couple years now. The team needs to dump him and move on. Trade him for a can of stewed tomatoes.

So you're telling us that a guy that is injured and has lesser numbers than Watt across the entire spectrum was traded for two first-round picks while others here are saying that TJ Watt can't play anymore, is stealing money with his contract, and wouldn't attract more than a low draft pick in a trade even though he has crushed this other player's impact stats every year for years now?

Wow....that almost doesn't make any sense.

Meh, I dont think it’s anything more than the Ravens being uncomfortable about his medicals. Two draft picks is high compensation not to be sure about a player. People are just pissed because a blockbuster trade fell through. No one blinks an eye when it’s a lesser deal and known player and deals fall through.

Trades are always dependent on a physical after terms are agreed upon, standard operating procedure.

I do wonder if the Raiders will have to unload him for a far lesser deal now. They made all those FA moves already, I doubt they can keep Crosby even if they wanted to.

Khan artist should swoop in and steal him for a 2nd rd pick :hehehe:
