After the USFL folded he tried to get the Bills to trade him to the Steelers or Raiders.

Fun to think about the domino affect that may have had. Does Noll retire and we never see Cowher as a Steelers HC. Do they go on to win any more SB’s in the 90’s. The NFC was so dominant back then, not sure it would have made a difference.

I think Kelly and Noll would have clashed more than a little. Kelly was already headstrong and that was before he got a taste of success, Chuck got less flexible near the end I think it might have accelerated the change. I think with Kelly under center Cowher makes at least 2 SB and wins those first few years. The supporting cast was there just lacked anything better than NOD.

I really wish the Steelers would have grabbed Dan Marino way more than any interest, or lack there of in Jim Kelly.

The domino effect is endless.. if we had Marino or Kelly, maybe we win a super bowl or two back then, but never draft Ben and don't win any post 2000.. we'll never know.

If "Go Bills Go" Marv Levy let Frank Reich finish the job maybe the Bills have a Lombardi

Dan Marino was drafted in 1983. Ben was 1 year old. I don’t think he was quite NFL ready just yet.

Having Kelly would have dramatically changed the teams path. Perhaps they win more and Noll stays longer. Perhaps he and Kelly clash too much, and he leaves earlier. If either of those things happen, there is a good chance the Steelers don't have Cowher as an option to be Noll's replacement.

We probably would have won in '95.

Kelly retired well before Ben so I’m not sure that would have changed but its possible the team would have been put on a different path where they dont have the same losing season that year and dont draft high enough to select him.

They tried getting him in 1995, or 96, I can't remember which year, and it almost happened, but he decided not to comeback, and play, and I believe we then lost to NE in the playoffs with Tomzack

Does anyone remember when we had former Pitt QB Pistol Pete Gonzalez for two years as a backup? He threw only one pass in his NFL career but it was an 8 yard completion to Hines Ward.

Marino had a winners competitive attitude

Pickett ran from the competition like a coward

    It was a bad decision

It is a silly comparison. Nobody ever thought Pickett was on that level.

That said, Marino landed with a coach willing to trust him. Pickett did not. After two years of that, including the team letting him have surgery to return quicker from his ankle injury and then not letting him play, he expressed his frustration and the team cut bait. The coward thing is just you making things up and trolling.

It was a bad decision. They should have done what I wanted and taken Linderbaum.

Being a former scribe you should know every newspaper had a "Funnies" section, this was from that section. :lolol:

One of the all time great comics. Sunday funnies were best when it had Hagar, Andy Capp, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, Broom Hilda, The Farside, there was one Wizard of something or another, can’t remember that title. Im sure I am forgetting others.

Might as well throw Brady in the mix. We'll get 2 games out of him.

A lot of comics are not for children. They'd never get them.

My #1 favorite: Pearls Before Swine. Rat is a hero to me.

Pistol Pete had a Kenny Pickett type of career at Pitt. He did very little until his senior year when he lead the Big East with 30 TD passes. Unlike Kenny though he wasn't a first round pick, in fact we signed him as an UDFA.
