Only time will tell if Wheaton can produce like Wallace. Just because X player does certain things better then Y player doesn't mean that X player will produce more. Wallace had special speed. He had the ability to out run most DB's and different coverages. Wallace's speed on the field probably allowed other players opportunities to make plays with the attention he received. It's probably going to take a year for Wheton to understand what it means to play WR in the NFL. We'll see what happens when the real games begin.

The only surprise to me and many others was that Wallace was able to parlay one exceptional skill into a $60 million contract which breaks down this way:
    Speed: $59,999,995
    Hands: $1.00
    Route running: $1.00
    Blocking: $1.00
    Fighting for ball: $1.00
Intangibles (good teammate, football IQ, etc.): $1.00

The Dolphins organization has lost its mind. No wonder they haven't won a Super Bowl since 1974!

We saw plenty of Mike Wallace, the alledged HR hitter that batted .185 , the same guy who used to piss me off for using his speed to run down the field and half ass it back to the huddle getting there with 15 seconds gone. He had Liberace hands. The article made me pump my fist since Wallace was very over rated. I was so glad when he wasnt resigned. I believe the Steelers will be just fine.

He wasn't even that last year. I have to believe he was one of the ones mucking up the locker room. And I know Clark speaks his mind a lot but that seemed to have something else behind it.

Since he came into the NFL,here is the full list of WRs with more TDs than Mike Wallace: Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Marques Colston. That's the list. over 4 yrs. No way Wheaton replaces that.

Wallace will be missed, and missed alot. And no amount of pretending how bad MW was will change that.

Here is what some have to say here in south Florida about Mike Wallace after last nights game.

The Dolphins' passing game finally woke up in the preseason thanks to new No. 1 receiver
Mike Wallace. He caught three passes for 58 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and all of it came on the third drive. Wallace showed the full range of playmaking by catching a 16-yard pass for a first down, a 33-yard catch over the top and a 9-yard touchdown reception by finding a hole in the zone. Dolphins fans were prematurely antsy about Tannehill not connecting with Wallace up to this point. The pair had a good week of practice, and it showed in the game.

I agree Afan. I've talked about this before, like mendy and Wallace or not, they put up a lot of points for us during their years. where will that production come from now? certainly not from heath this year as he took some of that burden off last year. these guys will be missed.

hopefully we spread that production out amongst our rookies and vets. I don't think wheaton has to outperform Wallace, but between all the wr's and the rb's we need them all uping their games as far as scoring.

it's a different offense then we had then, so it's hard to compare wheaton to Wallace and what they bring to the table.

AB certainly needs to pick up his TD production.. Hopefully that starts with him learning how to get his feet down on perfect passes to the endzone. As for Mendy, I think that's going to be covered by our 2nd round pick.

being down heath hurts the offense right out of the gate. bell or AB would have and could have a much better season if he were on the field. take away that over the top threat and bell may disappoint some people until heath is healthy again.

LSH can get lost easier. bell will be seen by the defense. missing one key piece can make a lot of other people not look as good. I hope people are not disappointed early on if bell and AB and the offense look average.

heath brings that much and takes away that much from this offense no matter whose in there. Wallace taking away the deep threat just adds to that. keep your fingers crossed heath comes back healthy early enough.

I agree not having Heath hurts the run game and the pass game but I truly believe Bell is the real deal.. I expect him to look like a blue chip back and think he will. If we can use Bell and Will Johnson in the passing game we can counter, to a degree, what we lose with #83 out. Add LSH to the mix and I think the offense can hold down the fort until #83's return. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, guess we'll have to wait and see.

We shall see but if Wheatons skills translates to the big stage then there is no reason he can't produce as much or more then Wallace since his overall game is better then Wallaces.

I am not sure how a baseball average translates to football. I know that Wallace produced at a high level for the team. I believe there were times that other WR's had opportunities to make plays because of the threat of Wallace's speed. It doesn't seem right that someone would be pissed off because they believed it took Mike Wallace 15 seconds for Wallace to return to the huddle. It just doesn't seem logical to be upset over that at all.

Mike Wallace generally had good hands. His hands were never questioned before last season. Last season was probably his worst season in number of drops he had. He caught a lot of balls, TD's, and was a threat as a WR. Who overrated Mike Wallace? He was/is one of the best deep threats in the league and he produced at a high level.
I wished they could had worked out a deal with Wallace. Oh well, it is what it is. The Steelers moved on and so did Wallace.

Actually that isn't very accurate. If you go back and read his scouting reports coming out of college one of the major knocks against him was his tendency to use his body to catch the ball. That trend continued while he was with the Steelers.

Wallace has never looked like a natural receiver. He tends to use his body to catch the ball and has issues when he has to stretch out and use his hands to catch the ball. Watch AB and Heath. The ball just seems to melt into their hands when they receive it. It's as if Wallace tries to trap the ball against his body. His hands are at best average.

I could have lived with it if Wallace had been willing to sign for a more reasonable amount, but the Steelers had no chance of signing him once he hit the market and the Fins decided to throw caution to the wind. Oh we'll, I guess we should be thankful for teams like the Dolphins. They allow well run organizations like the Steelers to win Super Bowls.

I understand what you are saying but a catch is a catch. He caught a lot of passes and TD's. He's had relatively very few drops in his 4 year career.
