And one of the final signings is another O-Line coach as a TE Coach. Just like the RB Coach, who has been an O-Line coach his entire career, the new TE coach has also been an O-Line Coach his entire career. Since coming to the NFL in 2021, Robert Kugler has been with 3 teams, and has always been an Assistant O-Line coach

So our TEs and RBs, may not be able to run or catch, but they better be able to block for old man Aaron. :)

A good coach can coach any position

It’s not the same as hiring a cardiologist to do neurology

Do we have more coaches on the team now? I seem to remember Rooney saying that the number of coaches was not an issue? Not sure how much difference it makes but this would mark a change in that attitude

I think McCarthy's staff has like three more guys than what Tomlin had.

Im not so worried about the quantity as I am the quality. Tomlin was hiring terrible coordinators at the end of his tenure.

What’s BS? You don’t think I’m happy Mike T is gone? Do you even understand what you are saying?

Let me spell it out for you nice and slow

Mike Tomlin hired horrible coordinators at the end of his tenure.

I cannot stand Mike Tomlin and am thrilled he disappeared like a coward.

Hope this clears it up for you.

Staff is bigger than it has ever been.

Per Alex K (who apparently has tracked this every year for a reasonably long period of time), there's no correlation between team success and staff size. He says that the correlation is typically between staff size and HC age. That young coaches tend to have bigger staffs.

FWIW, my guess is that the staff size was limited by budgetary constraints. And Tomlin was something like the 3rd highest paid coach in the league.

My guess is that MM is paid less than that. And so Rooney blessed a bigger staff.

Jury is still out for me on Arth. AR didn’t exactly tear it up last season but I attribute that more to his age, fear of getting hurt, and inevitable skills decline. I would like to see what Arth can do with a young unproven QB like Howard or whoever they might pick up in the draft. And no, I'm not talking about Rudolph. Although, if Arth could turn MR into a legit starting caliber NFL QB, he would definitely earn his stripes. Perhaps too tall an order though.

He's not wrong though. One doesn't need to look any further than Tomlin's nonexistent coaching tree to know that his coordinator and assistant hires were absolute garbage. Yes, it's been discussed ad nauseum around here. But the last decade of futility and mediocrity doesn't just magically disappear because he's gone. Hell, it might even be like a PTSD thing. Hope springs eternal but its going to take some time to cleanse the place of the mediocrity stench around the steelers.

Why would you say that Tomlin was a coward? Mike Tomlin was a lot of things, but I don't think coward should even be in the conversation.

He stepped away from a high-profile job after 19 years, which made him the longest tenured active coach at the time he left. How does that make him a coward in any way?

I had very high hopes for Arthur Smith. I really liked what he did his first year here with Justin Fields development. I still don't understand what went wrong with Arthur Smith. Sadly, Arthur failed all the way back down to college to get an OC position this year.

You can't get upset with Tomlin and Khan hiring a former Head Coach, with a proven track record as OC, to be the Steelers OC in 2024.

I will blame the 3 Stooges, Tomlin, Khan and Rooney, for bringing in Russelll Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers and forcing them on Arthur Smith. I remember Arthur Smith's first interview and he talked about how he was looking forward to coaching the young QBs on the team. (Kenny Picket and Mason Rudolph). OF course before training camp even started the "Stooges" had gotten rid of all the young QB talent.
