Well, Darnold is over ten years younger than Wilson.

we're seeing just how hard it is to get a franchise QB.

there is no easy way to get a franchise QB.

we're an impatient bunch, and this may take 10 years to get a franchise QB.

That's the point the poster is trying to make.

Darnold was young, has developed, has continued to get better as a player over time, and still has many years of good football left.

Russell Wilson was a really good player but is now old and deteriorating as a player.

    Opposite directions. Get it?

    NO, I'm NOT kidding.

I'm saying that Darnold didn't have some kind of miracle MVP, Hall of Fame year last year. Yeah, 4,300 yards, but 25 TDs vs. 14 INTs isn't setting the league on fire. He had a very solid year but several QBs threw for more TDs. I think Darnold's stats could be reproduced by Rodgers, even at this stage of his career. Rodgers, on our WR-deficient/inept team, threw for 24 TDs and 7 INTs, pretty similar stats to Josh Allen and a better TD/INT ratio than Darnold.

With actual talent at the WR position, it's not a stretch to think he could throw for 4k yards and 30 TDs.

So, explain to me how 4,300 yards, 25 TDs / 14 INTs on the Seattle offense is so epically better than 3,300 yards 24 TDs and 7 INTs on the Steelers' offense?

Now, would I rather have Darnold? Of COURSE. I was crossing every digit I had that we'd go after him when the Vike's let him go. But my point is, Seattle built a team that could beat anyone without MVP QB play. Darnold got the job done and he deserves a lot of credit for that season. But let's not pretend like he carried that team on his back. Stafford, Goff, Dak, Maye all threw for more yards. And several more QBs threw for more TDs and fewer INTs.

I can be very difficult. But some teams are doing it faster than 10 years.

Ben retired after 2021. So, the 10 year counting started then! 6 more years the Steelers have to find their guy. Let's not waste it with more retread QBs. If they want to roll with Rodgers for one more year, so be it. He's the best we've had since Ben. But they need to put a lot of effort into evaluating young talent for franchise QB potential.

I think... this is a large part of why they hired McCarthy. McCarthy is not a long term answer at 62 years old. But he knows QBs.

Rudolph will be 31 when the 2026 season starts. He has been in the NFL for eight seasons now. This isn't some prospect with untapped potential. This is a journeyman backup who has mixed a few good starts in with quite a few bad ones over the course of his career. Even during that supposedly magical run at the end of the 2023 season, the guy threw three touchdown passes in three games against bad opponents.

I would take TUA --but not his concussions--I would draft someone or try Will Howard

Darnold landed on teams with really good offensive coaches. Backup in SF. Started in MN. Started in SEA. During those years we had Matt Canada and Arthur Smith. Neither one of those coaches could’ve given him what Shanahan, O’Connell and Kubiak gave him

LoL. You think they just fired all of Carol's guys, and started completely over. LoL
Many of the guys on that SB team this year were Peter Carol's guys. As many as were Cowhers guys in Tomlins 1st SB.
That's why it's stupid to say . All HCs win with other people's players. You would have to be a HC for over 16 years, and never sign a FA to only have Your players on a team.

Even if you're lucky enough to get a franchise QB, that's no guaranty you'll win anything with him. There's plenty of examples of this in the NFL currently. Although it would certainly increase your chances of success having a franchise QB.

How many players from 2013 Seahawks are still on this year's Super Bowl Seahawks team?

Looked like an entirely different roster to me. Legion of Boom is retired.... so is Marshawn Lynch.

Other than Woodley and Timmons.... that was Cowher's team that won the Super Bowl in 2008!

Just like 2002's Tampa Bucs Super Bowl team was Dungy's! 1995 Cowboys was Johnson's team!

Yes, I hope. This is the primary thing that has me encouraged by the hire.

Half of the offensive/defensive starters for the two SB teams were different (11 of 22).
(Different punters, so half of the kickers too.)

So a decent amount of overlap, but also a decent amount of difference.

Out: Kreider, Randle El, Smith, Faneca, Hartings, Simmons, Oelhoffen, Haggans, Porter, Townsend, Hope
In: Spaeth, Holmes, Kemoeatu, Hatwig, Stapleton, Colon, Keisel, Harrison, Woodley, McFadden, Clark
