Weren’t Holcomb and Roberts both Colbert? That would bring your grade down even more.

At any rate, he gets a clean slate from me. A coach with 19 years seniority is certainly influencing signings.

We’ll see how he does as the defacto head guy now.

    I agree a C signing.

Time to move on from Issac and get younger. His contract is up. The left side of the Offensive line is concerning. Jones to me was a miss and i am hoping that Dylan Cook can keep progressing.

Robert Spillane was drafted by Colbert.

Omar like the rest of this organization has been underwhelming. It’s time with a new HC to start moving in a better direction. This upcoming year I hope they do a mini tear down and get our QB in 2027. After that draft the clock starts.

I'm willing to give Fautanu a pass at RT, since it was his first complete year of starting... he was pretty much a rookie out there. Last few games of the year... his performance dropped off considerably. Chalk it up as "hitting the rookie wall."

Holcomb and Roberts were signed in 2023.

Robert Spillane was not drafted. The Titans signed him as an undrafted free agent. The Steelers plucked him off their practice squad. Colbert acquired him for the Steelers, but he didn't draft him.

My opinion slightly varies. I do have experience on this side.....
I do rank Omar a solid C and I am also completely baffled by those who don't see it. (My opinion is also backed by his piers though I cannot and never would say names unless they step forward.)

There could be a little play in that if one gives credence to Tomlin meddling.
There's also some play if one subscribes to the theory of the Steelers being cheap.
Omar has been part of this franchise for some time. Does one really think he didn't provide inputs to/with Colbert? I find that incredible.
Omar's fingerprints on players is all over those Free Agents and Draft - from 2001 to 2021. It's what he did.
The difference is that in 2022 he became Colbert as his logical successor.
Omar does take credit for help building those teams from 2001. Sure, I can give him a weighted score.

I might be tempted to give him a "F" in Free Agency if I really drew down the fine points. But I'm ok with the "C"
I don't score him much better in the draft. He pretty bland there. I've been around some of these teams that work draft day to get the impact players they need.
The 2023 draft seems to be his crown jewel.
His big move was to move up from 17th to 14th to get Broderick Jones. Jones does carry a lot of potential, but he might have an issue getting back into the starting lineup if he doesn't use those skills.

My intent is not to trash him here. I think he gets a clean slate now that Tomlin is gone and that 'King Tomlin" angle is no longer used.
I think McCarthy will make his needs known and will push for players that he wants via draft or Free Agency.
I am perfectly willing to change my mind if he answers the bell.

And all of us know, he has a tall order this offseason. I hope he is up for the challenge.

Khan's big move in 2023 was trading back in the third round to acquire the fourth-rounder they used on Nick Herbig, then still getting Darnell Washington with the later third-round selection. Washington developed into an impactful starter this season and Herbig has shown flashes as a part-time player.

The best pick that year was Joey Porter, Jr., who has cut down on the penalties enough to become an elite cover corner.

The Steelers would have been better off using that No. 14 pick on Christian Gonzalez, though I wonder if there was some agreement with the Patriots about not taking their guy that helped get that deal done.

Google and yahoo touts the Jones move, not me.
He netted Jones, Porter and Benton.

I do think Porter is coming into one of those guys.. I like him.
    Benton, I'm still mixed.
Jones, if he doesn't get his head out of his rear, is going to have a tough time.
Herbig, while not mentioned in the review, I think he just stumble on. You might have read one of my thoughts that Herbig makes Highsmith a potential trade bait option. I think highly of Nick.

Omar has a hands on coach now, offensively driven. I'm going to drop all his history and see if he answers the bell. We need him to be his best.

He was part of the "round table", but it's openly spoken now about how Weidl is more the talent guy, Khan is the business end.

I'm not saying Khan is clueless about talent, or had zero say when Colbert was behind the desk. But given what we hear now i think it safe to say his view wouldn't have carried the weight as others in the room.

I think Weidl has more input than you might believe. He was hired as the personnel guru and he learned from the best in Philly.
