I’m as worried as most about this hire. Cowher giving his support isn’t convincing me. But I am trying to see the positives he brings, and waiting to find out if he will do the right things (starting with his OC and DC choices).

I’m only arguing against the idea that it is absolutely certain he will fail.

Imagine that you are a KC fan in January 2017. Similar complaints that I’m reading now would also be made about Andy Reid: a lot of regular season success in his 14 years in PHI and 4 years in KC, but only one visit to the Super Bowl (a loss) during those 18 years. And Reid was turning 60.

(A bunch of QB-needy teams let Mahommes slip to KC and the 10th pick. If KC wound up with Trubisky or Watson, they probably don’t see the success of the 2019-24 seasons.)

 

I certainly don't love this hire but damn, some of you need to step back from the ledge. Maybe let the dude screw up first before bringing out the torch and pitchforks.

 

Now I’m thinking about those analysts who kept insisting that the Steelers under Tomlin would have a losing record that season, year after year, figuring that they’d eventually be right. (And now that he stepped down, they never will be right.)

McCarthy in a bubble has a solid coaching resume. It’s not necessarily him as a coach but more what this represents. We had a chance to truly reset and get a young innovative mind and instead went for the safe hire a guy that has been almost as bad as Tomlin in the playoffs lately. Art is delusional and thinks we are in contention until he steps away I have no faith. The proof will be bringing back 43 year old AR and trying to run it back.

 

Will your opinion change if AR is not brought back?
