Wanted to mention that I also like that Morrison quote...what a delightful weirdo

I am suspicious of the Flip My Pony stuff. He is always so hit or miss in his relationship with the truth...

BUT...it is entirely possible that many of the candidates in the 2025-26 coaching pool were/are just not ready yet. But we will likely never really know.

Rex Ryan said the other day that none of these young guys moved the needle in his opinion .

The proof may be if he doesnt get a HC gig this cycle. Out of him and Scheelhaase, I only heard that the later had a good interview.

Depends. If the Browns hire Scheelhaase we'll get to see how ready he is....2X a season :icon cool:

For all we know is that we dodged a bullet in not hiring Shula. But the news after the virtual interviews with him and Scheelhaase were raving reviews. I'm sorry, this feels more like a PR campaign to prop up HCMM than anything.

I do wonder if part of hiring McCarthy is a vote of non-confidence in the young guys they did zoom interviews with.

I'd have rather they did in-person interviews. But maybe they just didn't like the current crop.

I tend to think that leadership is more important for a HC than being an Xs and Os genius (true for both Cowher and Tomlin IMO). But it does seem like the Rams D was mostly meh year. 17th in yards allows. 19th in passing yards allowed. 12th in rushing yards allowed. 10th in points allowed. So it's not like they're bad. But pretty much just average.

ETA: I thought Shula was going to be the hire.

And it might be hard to hire a guy as a HC when he hasn't even run an offense.

I also head Scheelhouse interviewed well but just is not ready to be a HC. There is also some question as to how involved he is in the Rams offense.

Local media are not the only ones who have said something similar.

it’s also telling that the only other team that has interest in him is the Browns….a team that can’t even get people to interview for their opening.

I think the only one that might hire Scheelhaase is the Browns because they are desperate.

If Scheelhaase is smart, he’ll turn them down, too.

Scheelhaase is getting/had a second interview with the Browns. Them being the Browns will probably muck it up but it’s possible we may go against him 2x a year

I would imagine that Scheelhaase is smart as many people are turning down the Browns. Grant Udinski, Chris Shula, Mike McDaniel, Jesse Minter, and John Harbaugh all have turned the Browns Head Coaching Position down (though in Harbaughs case he had seem how the Browns operate a lot closer so to speak than others). If anything, I expect Scheelhaase to stay for one more year. How come?! 2027 looks a lot more promising with the QBs (on paper anyways).

That would be the perfect opportunity for him to go and see if he wants the gig. Truth be told though, perhaps the Steelers could offer him the OC?! Very unlikely he will accept but if this current Coaching Cycle has taught us anything Blast, you never know!!

.... except the Browns being turned down..

I find it hard to believe he “bombed” the interview. More like ARII just liked MM more, and its looking like Shula might have mentioned “rebuild” that dirty but necessary word ARII fears the most

MM lied to JJ, so I have no doubt he knew how to tickle Art's balls by basically saying "Everything is fine, just need a few tweaks" - Art cares about the bottom line, so more of the same is exactly what he wanted, he said as much, as long as MT would have kept achieving the "standard" he would have been here indefeinitely if he would have wnated to be.

Or was it news that was fed by their agents to prop up their value?? No one can say what the truth is except the guys in the room.

Dulac (to Shula's agent): "so, how did it go with the Steelers?"
Shula's agent: "he killed it man. hit it out of the park"
Dulac: "that's awesome, can I quote you or no?"
Shula's agent: "nah, just say 'sources'... thanks"

‘Bombed the interview’ is subjective. Perhaps his ideas and suggested approach just wasn’t aligned with Art Rooneys.

Either way, whether true or not, this has no business in the public domain and interview details with candidates that weren’t chosen should remain private. This is probably just clickbait or from a very dubious ‘source’.
