For Cleveland, it’s likely more than just the QB. Taking the Browns HC job is a damn near guarantee of failure with that owner and GM, and it would be two failed HC gigs for McDaniel. Coaches usually don’t get a third shot.

Clearly, I know better than to care where the guy coached previously. Given their incompetence, that the Browns let someone go could be seen as a ringing endorsement of that person. The guy was named coach of the year twice while working for that **** show of an organization.

I didn't want Stefanski for a number of reasons, but that he previously coached a rival was not one of them. You still haven't been able to articulate a valid reason why that would be disqualifying.

As you said, Ownership plays a pretty damn big hand in all of this. Terry Pegula's dumbass statements further clarified it; Owners will truly do whatever they so please in the chase for the dollar. Sean McDermont wasn't getting Buffalo over the hump and I do believe he would have been fired anyways.

However, it is the aftermath of how Buffalo handled that situation is what should give other Head Coaching hopefuls pause. AR II and the Rooney Family as a whole do have their shortcomings. Honesty, Integrity, Patience and Trust though?! That family has that in the literal sense of a Royal Straight Flush.

Stability, continuity and self autonomy are all very enticing appeals for any new Head Coach; the four aforementioned assets the family has no less. Even if the Steelers don't have a QB now, AR II will wait for that domino to fall. He was there when Bill Cowher didn't have Big Ben.

I imagine he will stay at his new Head Coach's side until the next one is found.

I had to look up why you listed McDaniel as a minority. I was shocked to see he was biracial, I thought that he was whiter than a mayonnaise sandwich.

Except that may not be the case. As mentioned on the other thread, he only committed to return as their DC if he doesn't get a head coaching job.

That would be an incredibly short-sighted reason for hiring him. I'm thinking he is the front-runner, but this has nothing to do with it.

Unless they met in a dark cave and found peace at some point, I don't see it happening:

"Mike McCarthy is certainly now on the hot seat for Green Bay," Rapoport said. "He needs to close strong, it feels like, to keep his job in Green Bay. Obviously, one of the longest tenured coaches in the NFL and that is all in doubt.

"And there's a couple reasons why. One of them does involve the disconnect with Aaron Rodgers -- the tension there regarding the direction of the offense. Rodgers has been pretty vocal about his frustration with play-calling and the lack of creativity was there on Thursday night. That, of course, is something [Packers] CEO Mark Murphy will have to make a big decision on at the end of the year."
