Damn, saw this, got interrupted and when I came back saw the OC hire and got it all confused.

But still promising. He was just there to interview for their President of football operations and now they are having him back for the GM interview.

High of 5° and low of -8° this weekend in Western Pennsylvania. After tomorrow it will be below 20° for at least the next ten days.

@#^* That!!! I do not miss that at all. One of the few times lately, I am happy to still be down here in South Florida. Heck, it's going to reach the low 80's over the weekend.

For those of you who have never been or lived here, that phrase "Only in Florida?" It's True.

Oh, and Florida guy is very real. He's actually everywhere all at once.

Be safe to everyone who is in the path of this thing. Worried about my brother and dad in NJ if it tracks further North. Dad is 86 and lost his wife back in September.

Forecast has been pushing it further north today
South Carolina, where I am at, in middle of state, still freezing rain.
Not as much, still enough at .57 by Monday morning, starting Sat night.
Downed power lines and trees highly likely

I'm in northeast PA at elevation. This thing is tracking to come right by us. How far it moves north will determine whether we get some sleet/snow/ice mix or we get 12"-18" of snow. Loss of power is likely.

I've lived here my whole life, but we bought a house in Arizona and have our house here for sale. I can't wait to get to Arizona because I can't stand this terrible NE weather. It's just relentlessly miserable.

I hope everyone is OK out there.

Currently 16 below with a wind chill of -40 in Northwestern Minnesota. Just another day in January here in the plains.

    Beautiful sunny day

So I went outside and took a deep breath of fresh air

    And my nostrils froze shut

    That's brutal....complete nonsense!

It was just below zero here a few days ago with wind chills around -20. Luckily, temperatures that low aren't an everyday winter thing for us.

    Stay safe.

We had a tree exploding alert last night. My daughter asked what that meant. Told her that's when it gets so cold that any moisture in the tree freezes and that expansion has nowhere to go so it burst.

My cousins tried to compare PA winters to ND winters one time. They told me you know we have wind and snow too. I said yeah but you also have mountains and forests. Eastern ND and MN is flat nothingness. Wind starts at South Dakota border and nothing to stop it until upper Manitoba.

With all this weather talk, all I hear is ice being made. Let the fishing commence!

It is above zero here, barely.

But that is just midwestern ice fishing weather. It isn't the cold that gets you...it's the wind.....and other upper midwest cliches about the weather...

I built a lot of schools and one superintendent would ask my advice on if he should cancel school because of the cold

My standard answer was “they will have recess outside today in Minnesota “

    He quit asking my opinion

It's true. We live in the mountains at about 2000' above sea level, but anywhere there is a large open field or flat agricultural areas, the wind is just ridiculous. When there is snow the winds whip across those roads in those areas and the roads can become impassable as the snow drifts on the roads.

Just a few years ago my son was coming home from work at 3 AM when we had just gotten about 4-5" inches of snow and got stuck in deep snow on a road that passes through a farm field. The snow had drifted so high when he came around a sharp turn that he literally couldn't see where the road was. It was just a large dune of snow that formed. He went off the road and couldn't move. I had to jump in my pickup and get him out of there. I had explained to him that it could happen to him there, but now he KNOWS it can happen to him there and why!

The moral of the story here is that flat areas and strong wind combined with snow can be a nightmare. People simply don't understand if they don't experience it.

Any plans to leave for warmer weather at some point?

My folks retired with my younger brother to Northern California almost 4 years ago and as tempted as I am to follow it would be for another's 6 years or so because kids are in school. As much as the cold and snow sucks it is the perfect place for me since my grandpa's Irish genes culminated in making sure Im pale skin, can't tolerate sun and heat. So temperate summers and cold winters are in the sweet spot. We talked about moving to the Pacific northwest around Seattle but never did anything about it lol.
