Is this really what you want again with a defensive minded HC after two decades?

How quickly we forget what Tomlin was like win the Steelers were winning playoff games, before the end of his career.

Highest Paid QB in the League.... Check
Highest Paid WR in the League.... Check
Highest Paid RB in the League.... Check if Bell would have signed the contract the Steelers offered.
Highest Paid Center in the League.... Check
Highest Paid Guard in the League.... Check

Tomlin went off the rails at the end of his career throwing money at his defense.

Edit: I am not sure Decastro was the highest paid guard, or 2nd at the time.
    David DeCastro
The black-and-gold rewarded the right guard just ahead of the 2016 season with a five-year, $50 million contract extension. The pact included a $16 million signing bonus, and the total value was the second highest all-time for a guard.

Pivotal interview with Flores coming up. I dont believe McCarthy will land the job but Flores very well could. If they dont hire him you have to think they are zeroed in on Shula or Scheelhaase. Probably Shula because they could then get Scheelhaase as OC. I dont believe he will get a HC job this cycle but Shula definitely will. Two for one deal if they pick Shula.

Flores has the job already. The Rooney's think its 1969 again. Win with a strong defense and a crap offense. Team needs total rebuild and clueless and cheap Art thinks otherwise. We will waste money on more defensive stiffs like the ones we have and pray for 8-9 wins and crushing in the playoffs if we make them. Sad how bad leadership destroys franchises. We not much better than the browns leadership anymore.

I would hate to see us make a final decision before the Rams are eliminated from the playoffs. We at least need to talk in person to both Shula and Scheelhaase. Flores and McCarthy are "fall back" options IMO. Neither are particularly strong HC candidates at this point in time, but could be relied upon for a short stint. Of the two, I vastly prefer McCarthy (and honestly he could hire his succession plan on either side of the ball and turn it over to them when he retires). His stint would be shorter due to his age, but if done right we could be better off for it. But I only entertain that if we don't end up landing the young coach we wanted.

The **** are you talking about? You don't think if he was the guy they would have called it by now? Half the candidates the Steelers need to interview are still coaching.

so, if we hire Flores-- I'm guessing it won't take long for the Fire Flores chants to start---Would it be a season or before it is over --If it is Shula will the chants start--Or are we going to give time and support to whoever the :steelflag: choose.. I will give whoever it is time..we must.

Got a feeling McCarthy will own the interview.

    He’s experienced.

You mean like the gutsy HC for the Bears who 3 times if He just went for a field goal instead of a 4th down would now be in the NFC championship. No guarantees he ever gets that far again.

Bare minimum of 5-7, imho. Unless the team gets markedly worse each season despite notable improvements in players and coordinators – which would suggest that something is fundamentally not right –then that seems pretty fair for a minimum.

Of course, the Steelers organization tends to be far more patient than most (for better and sometimes for worse), so their floor of acceptability is probably significantly higher than mine.

I keep hearing how patient the Steelers are, but I can't remember them hiring a HC, and him sucking, and I don't really remember Noll before the turn around. So I'm not counting that.

They were 3-6 on fourth down conversions. 3 of the 6 misses were in field goal range. If they take just one of those, the don't even need to go into overtime.

Sean McVay has been on fourth down one time when it was 10-10 and they had a easy FG....But he has been on fourth down and they score a TD after that.If the rams would kick the FG,the bears would win 17-13
